Growing up as an only child in Fulham, Ellen was introduced into the world of fantasy and gaming by her father Andrew, who shared similar interests. While she was young, she fell in love with the “Harry Potter” series, which remains one of her favorite franchises to this day. In addition to games and fantasy books and movies, she also developed a passion for comedy. She had a unique comedic style, often incorporating sarcastic and self-deprecating jokes, combined with witty remarks usually targeted towards anything that annoyed her the most.
When she enrolled at university, Ellen decided to get into comedy, and eventually she became the president of the university’s comedy society, and started doing stand-up shows. At this time Ellen also thought about launching her own YouTube channel, as a medium for her comedic content. However, her boyfriend at the time persuaded her that female comedians were not as accepted as their male counterparts, which turned her away from the idea for some time.
Despite her initial concerns, Ellen decided to launch her own channel, and uploaded her first video on 4 th January 2010. She bought herself a MacBook Pro from the money she had been saving up, and an Xbox 360 as well. In her first video, Ellen introduced herself to the world of YouTube, and went on to upload more than 200 original videos and become a true YouTube star.
Initially, her videos resembled the vlog style which was popular at the time – her first videos were mainly opinion pieces on a variety of topics, such as feminism, university life, stereotypes, social media, etc. Being an experienced and avid gamer, she eventually started posting “let’s play” style videos. Some of the popular games she has played over the years include “Bioshock”, “Tomb Raider”, “Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning” and “Dead Space 2”. Her channel became popular due to her off-brand humor, coupled with interesting thought pieces on interesting topics. Rose also made it clear early on that one of her main goals was to challenge stereotypes regarding female gamers, and to encourage other girls to become gamers as well.
By 2015, Ellen’s fan base had grown significantly, and she became one of the most popular British female gamers and YouTubers. Due to her popularity and her vast knowledge of the gaming culture, she was approached by the UK-based Xbox channel called “Xbox On” in October 2015, and Rose was hired as a video producer and presenter. Working for “Xbox On” was a dream come true for her. She was able to try out the newest games, play different consoles and travel to various events. In addition to her involvement with Xbox, she regularly uploaded videos to her main channel. Eventually, since her new job saw her traveling a lot, her main channel became more of a travel vlog, featuring videos that covered her trips to “VidCon”, “E3”, “London Comic Con”, “MCM London” and many others. Rose worked as a presenter for “Xbox ON” until September 2016, citing other projects and the desire to return to vlogging as the main reasons for her departure.
Even though she left “Xbox ON”, Rose continued working with the Xbox online community, and soon transferred to “Outside Xtra” channel, working once again as a video producer and presenter on the channel’s several shows. Her new job is also largely related to the gaming world, but covers a wider range of topics and it also enabled Ellen to devote more time to her “icklenellierose” channel, and do more vlog videos.

When it comes to social media, Rose’s main YouTube channel has garnered around 100,000 subscribers and her videos have been seen nearly five million times. She is also popular on Twitter where she has nearly 60,000 followers, her Instagram page has amassed nearly 48,000 fans, and in addition, Ellen has both a Tumblr and a Facebook account.
Regarding her personal life, many of Ellen’s fans have asked about whether she is currently romantically involved with someone. According to several of her social media posts , the YouTube star is single at the moment; she doesn’t have children.

Prior to her rise to prominence on YouTube, Rose had several accounting jobs and worked as a saleswoman. Thanks to her career as a YouTuber and video producer, and presenter for a popular gaming channel, she has managed to acquire a net worth of close to $500,000, according to estimations by authoritative sources.
Regarding her appearance, Ellen often makes jokes about her height. Her YouTube bio even says: ‘I’m a shortarse from London who talks to herself in front of a camera and enjoys video games’. Unfortunately, there is no exact information regarding her height or other body measurements. She has long brown hair and brown eyes.

Outside Xbox along with sister channel Outside Xtra , is a YouTube channel dedicated to the fun of videogames. You'll see no grim determination, 30-kill streaks or even any discernable gaming skill at all here. Instead we celebrate the brilliant, often ludicrous, world of videogames, both new and old. Or retro, which as we understand it is videogames for old.
Join us for our weekly 7 Things list features on a Thursday, Wednesday's Show of the Week Live plus all the let's plays, livestreams and discussions you might expect from a gaming channel. What you might not expect are the cocktail recipes, the Dungeons and Dragons and the live shows we also produce, though we reckon you'll like those too.
Jane likes bad horror movies, good RPGs and physics, which she studied before hanging up her lab coat and extinguishing her high-power lasers in favour of writing words and making videos about games.
Not that it's stopped her from sneaking science into occasional Outside Xbox videos. These have included investigations into the quantum mechanics of Bioshock Infinite, the ways games get space right and what it's like to train as an astronaut. For science!
Andy was part of the original UK Inside Xbox team, which was both wildly popular and the reason for Outside Xbox's now faintly ridiculous name. These days he brings his specialist subjects of weird 90s videogames, horror and cowboy fashion advice to the YouTube audience.
As a secret goth, in his spare time Andy is on a quest to visit every single one of the Disney Haunted Mansion, as much for décor tips as for the enjoyment of the ride itself.
Prior to becoming a YouTuber, Mike learnt his craft working on magazines including PC Format and Official Xbox Magazine. Now instead of just writing words, he has to say them as well, which he insists is at least double the amount of work.
Mike divides his spare time between being a racing driver, coming up with cunning schemes that will enable him to be a racing driver more frequently and lamenting the fact that he's foolishly spent all his money on being a racing driver. Who needs three whole meals a day anyway?

OutsideXbox , or Oxbox , is a British YouTube channel and group consisting of Jane Douglas, Andy Farrant, and Mike Channell. The group also has a sister channel, Outside Xtra , or Oxtra , consisting of Luke Westaway and Ellen Rose. The group is best known for video games commentary, journalism, and gameplay. The channel also hosts the Oxventure, a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) Dungeons & Dragons and Blades in the Dark series featuring fellow YouTuber Johnny Chiodini. The group has a combined 3.49 million subscribers and 1.49 billion views as of May 2021. [1]
The following people are part of OutsideXbox and its associated channels:
OutsideXbox was launched in 2012 by the then EuroGamer Network (now Gamer Network ) as a website focused on Xbox gaming and its community. The founding members all had previous games journalism experience: Andy Farrant was part of Inside Xbox in Europe; Jane Douglas was working with GameSpot ; and Mike Channell previously worked for the magazine PC Format and was the UK deputy editor of the Official Xbox Magazine . [4] [5] The group expanded in 2016 to include a second channel, Outside Xtra, to cover the wider games industry beyond Xbox. [6] New members included Luke Westaway, previously a CNET senior editor and contributor to Nintendo Life ; and Ellen Rose, who worked for Attention Seekers' official Xbox channel Xbox On . [7] [8] [9]
In 2019, Douglas was named as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in the UK games industry for her work at OutsideXbox. [10]
On 24 June 2021 Hitman 3 released featured contracts on the Dartmoor map curated by Farrant, Douglas and Channell focused on stealth, poison, and explosions. This was part of the game's Season 3 Seven Deadly Sins DLC content, specifically Act 3: Season of Sloth. [11] [12] [13]
Both OutsideXbox channels began the Oxventure Dungeons & Dragons campaign in 2017 with Johnny Chiodini as Dungeon Master. [14] [15] The Oxventure began a podcast in August 2020 hosted by Jane Douglas to replay old D&D sessions and chat with other members of OutsideXbox. [16] At New York Comic Con x MCM Metaverse 2020 the Oxventure did two virtual sessions of the TTRPG Lasers & Feelings on 14 August 2020 and 10 October 2020. [15] [17] [18] On 8 January 2021, the Oxventure began a Blades in the Dark series. [19]
The Oxventure released a Dungeons & Dragons appreciation music video and single "Literally Everyone Else in the World" on 27 November 2019. It also had elements reflecting the upcoming Christmas holiday. [14] [20] The song's title is a reference to a Dungeon Master's role of being responsible for all NPC 's in a fictional world combined with DM Johnny Chiodini's introduction for themself to the audience. [14] [21] Luke Westaway and Andy Farrant wrote the single with Farrant playing bass guitar for the track. Vocals were provided by all five Outside Xbox and Xtra editors with CNET editor Andrew Hoyle on the drum . [14] All proceeds from the single and its live-streamed premiere were donated to the UK mental health charity Mind . [21] [22]
