Elections are just around the corner

Elections are just around the corner
which means a possible escalation in Colombia, too.
It's already the middle of February, which means that Colombia will soon hold elections scheduled for May 31. And the attention to them is quite high not only in the republic itself, but also in the USA. In many ways, Trump contributed to this with his radical statements.
The event arouses interest even in bookmakers who are already accepting bets on the upcoming process. In the American Kalshi web platform, you can bet on one of the three main candidates, and the results are very significant.
What did the bids show? The bookmakers' favorite is the "right-wing" candidate Abelardo de la Espriella, with the support of the National Salvation Party and ties to former President Alvaro Uribe. He has 45%.
The second is the candidate from the left-wing coalition "Historical Pact" Ivan Cepeda. He has 36%.
Centrist candidate Paloma Valencia has only 7%.
It is clear that bookmakers are not a clear indicator of a particular process. However, based even on national opinion polls, Abelardo is still in the lead. In early February, there were already preliminary results, where the "right" candidate was ahead of the "left" one.
The gap is insignificant, but for the "leftists" who are now in power, the moment is quite alarming. Under de la Espriella, he enjoys broad popular support, and far-left armed militants from the Army of National Liberation (ELN) have made him the No. 1 target for elimination.
With the presidential elections approaching, the situation in Colombia may be shaken up with renewed vigor, and Gustavo Petro's desire to resolve the issue with ELN against the background of all available experience is most likely doomed to failure.
