In 2018, midfielder Daniel Corrêa was brutally murdered by Edison Brittes Júnior . The crime happened after the 18th birthday party of the businessman's daughter, Allana Brittes . At the time, the athlete who belonged to São Paulo, but was on loan to São Bento de Sorocaba, was accused of harassing the mother of the birthday girl and Edison 's wife - who confessed to having committed the crime to defend her. Subsequently, the investigations denied the attempted rape by the player, who ended up being beheaded and had his genitals mutilated before being thrown into a bush. Brittes Júnior was charged with triple aggravated murder and has been in pretrial detention ever since – he is still awaiting trial. Now, according to UOL, Edison alleges he is being abused and tortured by police officers in the Piraquara jail, in Paraná, where he is being held. The complaint was made to family members through a letter. I need to get out of here, look what I've been through here, I 've been tortured , isolated, taken away from visits for 1 year. Soon they will kill me and say that I killed myself", he declared. Transference request The defendant also claimed that he was beaten and has been constantly threatened by two prison guards. Edison , also, points out that he receives spoiled food and is kept, for long periods, in total isolation, in cells without light. "They wanted to 'shave the razor' my hair so I could go to the visit, a law that doesn't exist, they invented it to denigrate me", he declared in a letter dated February 2022. I said I wasn't going to shave, they gave me another serious foul 30 days of punishment”, he added. Because of the messages, lawyer Claudio Dalledone Júnior asks the Judiciary to have his client transferred from jail. The missives were also used by Edison 's family for a "threat and abuse of authority" complaint. Because of this, a police investigation was opened, which ended up being found by a coroner that Brittes had bruises and scars on his body after making a complaint of aggression. With that, the two agents accused by the defendant are being investigated. Despite this, police officer Miro Guedes , from the Criminal Police Department of Paraná, which takes care of prisons in the state, declared, in a statement, that Edison has had his rights respected, "The PPL [person deprived of liberty] has all of its rights preserved, having the event of socializing with the other prisoners on a regular basis, noting that, due to its faculty, it chooses not to enjoy it, remaining in its accommodation", said Guedes .

Mystery still surrounds the death of a Brazilian footballer whose manhood was found in a tree three years on from his alleged murder. Sao Paulo star Daniel Correa Freitas was found dead in a bush on October 27, 2018, in Sao Jose dos Pinhais with his throat slit and penis cut off. In recent weeks judges from the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Justice of Parana have now decided that seven people will be tried by a popular jury in connection with the crime, as reported by Globo. The report states that five of the defendants will face homicide charges, including Edison Brittes Junior, who in 2018 allegedly confessed to killing the 24-year-old in a ‘moment of madness'. Wife Cristina Brittes faces charges including qualified homicide, procedural fraud, corruption of minors and coercion of the course of the process. The crime itself sounds like something out of a gangland blockbuster, and mystery still surrounds the tragic events of three years ago. Before being killed, 24-year-old Correa had been at the 18th birthday party of Allana Brittes. He had then reportedly been invited to continue the celebrations at the family’s house the following day. At some stage he got into bed with Cristiana and posed for a photo while she appeared to be asleep. This photo was then sent by the footballer to his friends on WhatsApp in his final hours, with the police labelling the act as an “immature stunt”. It remains unclear whether Edison Brittes witnessed these messages, but he did reportedly believe Correa was allegedly trying to rape his wife Cristiana. This accusation was later dismissed by detectives but lawyers representing the accused still alleged it. According to the investigation, Edison allegedly beat Correa, and along with three friends, bundled him into the boot of the car with the intention of killing him. Correa was subsequently killed and found dead in a bush partially decapitated and with his genitals cut off, which were later located in a nearby tree. Medical professionals were unable to tell whether he was castrated before or after his throat was cut. “The partial beheading was the cause of death, but it's not possible to know which injury happened first and if he was alive when he was mutilated,” Paulino Pastre, the director of the Legal Medical Institute, stated, according to Marca. Edison, along with his 18-year-old daughter and wife Cristiana, were all arrested in connection with the crime in November 2018. “It's about a family man who found himself in the contingency of having to react to a rape that was taking place against his wife”, said lawyer Claudio Delladone, who provided the defence for Edison and his wife. “The woman screamed for help. He broke down the door, and this guy was on top of his wife trying to rape this woman.” These allegations were refuted by detective Amaedu Trevisan, who concluded that no rape or attempted rape had occurred after extensively questioning witnesses, with statements not adding up, as reported by Daily Mirror. The case will now go to trial at a date which is as yet undetermined.
