This is regarded in some circles as one of the worst movies ever made, and they may be right. The only reason it got so high a rating is I like bad movies. This one is barely watchable though.

Very scary movie and true story. Wow! Gave 4 Stars due to the price being jacked up to $41+ which is a ridiculous price to pay for a DVD. Otherwise, I would've given the movie itself 5 Stars!

"Ed Gein," or as it's known throughout the rest of the world "In the Light of the Moon," is a movie based rather tightly around the real life story of American murderer Ed Gein, who was the inspiration for stories like "Psycho," "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and "The Silence of the Lambs." This movie is a low budget telling of the life of Gein, told mostly from his perspective as he delves deeper and deeper into madness after his beloved mother passes away and he finds himself increasingly isolated from society and doing odder and odder things over the years that would ultimately lead to his arrest in 1957 and which found him committed to an insane asylum for the rest of his life. The movie is made well enough for a film of its low budget, there are a few scenes that look rather silly, particularly those involving fire-- they probably couldn't afford pyro-tech people on the set so they utilized 2000-era CGI to make flames and it comes off as looking kind of goofy and takes you out of the experience of the film for a little bit. Unfortunately that's not the movie's main problem, the movie's main problem is its editing-- it's all over the place. While the film is shot well enough, something about the editing gives the film an inconsistency that I couldn't shake the whole time I was watching it. That's forgivable, though, too because this movie is really only for die-hard Ed Gein heads, only. The movie is interesting if you've read a lot about Ed Gein and know the story behind his crimes very well. But if you don't know anything about Ed Gein, you're probably not going to enjoy this film very much. That's why I can't even give this movie four stars. My rating, if I could, would be to give it three and a half stars but Amazon doesn't let you do that so I have to write out my review explaining myself. I'd recommend reading Harold Schechter's book "Deviant," before watching this film because that book sheds a lot of light on the story and will give you some points of reference as to what exactly you're seeing on the screen. Also read the Wikipedia article on Gein to help gain some insight. All in all, "In the Light of the Moon" or "Ed Gein" isn't a bad movie, it just suffers from poor editing, some silly special effects and being marketed to a very niche audience that outside of a select few, very few people are going to -get- this movie. But if you've read Harold Schechter's "Deviant," and read more about Gein from sources like Wikipedia, I'd say check this movie out. It's only (as of February, 2019) seven dollars to buy on Amazon Instant Video, and it's not like I regret buying it or anything, but to be completely honest, this movie is for Ed Gein completionists, only. Outside of a few people, this movie won't be understood by the mainstream audience, but that's okay if you know the story of Gein well.

If you have not seen the HISTORY channel dvd of Ed Gein - suggest you buy it to have alongside this. Watch this after - they complement each other very well. Ed was legitimate insane and died in the facility -- but in many was was a stunted kid in a man's form and small and afraid - and I think created by his family upbringing or at least, pushed past his boundaries. The film captures what I've learned about Ed very well - and is played I feel very close to the real man. Ed is one of the most fascinating of the serial killers though manly he dug up graves and only gravitated toward live victims near the end of his life outside the mental institution.

Ed Gein DVD arrived on time and in excellent condition for what the listed price was! 👍 This movie isn't the best depiction of this infamous story that was influenced by many other films throughout the horror genre but 2001's Ed Gein provides good atmosphere and Steve Railsback is an underrated horror icon.

Ed gein a sick sick man but somehow this man fascinates me beyond my ability to not be fascinated by it I love any movie about him I love any book about him I love any newspaper article about him he just fascinates me if you were in there any type of grave robbers and really sick people that do really sick axe the is the man for you

When I first bought this movie, for the price I thought it would be very amateur, but to my surprise was really good! I initially bought this movie for a project I am doing at school, but watched it a few more times just because it was that good. The portrayal was onboard to the real life story of Ed Gein and the quality of this film was very good. It explains Ed's life growing up and his transformation into a serial killer. Though a serial killer cannot be FULLY portrayed in only a two hour movie, because there is a lot to tell, the filmakers really picked the important parts of his life and pieced it together beautifully! The movie was affordable, came earlier than expected and was in very good conditions. This movie deserves a 5-star rate and is highly recommeneded for anybody wanting to know the life of Ed Gein, whether it is for a school project or even as a Saturday night horror movie.

I read [[ASIN:1558171878 Edward Gein: America's Most Bizarre Murderer]] in my pre-early teens and ever since than I have not been able to forget him. He truly is the most bizarre, he disgusted and freaked me out but yet he also really intrigued me. So when I came across this movie, I had to see it. I didn't care if it was a horrible movie with horrible acting or what not, I had to see this story on film. And I think they did a really great job!! Steve Railsback who played Ed and Carrie Snodgress was soooo convincing! It seemed like they showed the real footage of Ed getting arrested. I'm not sure but it looked like him and it seemed legit. If it was really the footage that was a great touch to the movie to remember that this was about a real person and things he has done. I'm glad i purchased this movie and he still freaks me out and yet still very much intrigues me!!

The dvd played for 5 minutes then froze I tried taking it out and putting it in again and it still froze
