I am a writer and librarian who lives in St. Louis, Missouri. Books have always played a big role in my life. My father had a small bookstore called the 'St. Louis Bookstore' that specialized in children's books and classics. The St. Louis Bookstore now exists in virtual reality; most of my new books are published under its imprint. In my imagination, I made a journey to Narnia and later went to Middle Earth where I traveled along the road with Bilbo Baggins, Frodo, and other hobbits. I watched as Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson solved baffling mysteries and matched wits against the sinister Professor Moriarty. In my mind's eye, I flew alongside Harry Potter in a Quidditch match and helped Harry and his friends, Ron and Hermione, win a magical war against the villainous Voldemort. Lewis' 'Space Trilogy' and other science fiction expanded the boundaries of my imaginative universe. All these wonderful stories contributed to my decision to major in English at St. Louis University. Soon after graduating, I began to write my own stories. I hope that my readers decide to take the imaginative journeys both far and near that I have written for them. A short simple story, easy enough to read in one sitting. A good way to evangelize to middle school readers. I can't believe that I paid to read this garbage. The length hardly qualifies it as a novella, the characters are unrealistic and unbelievable, and the storyline archaic and predictable. Calling this a 'suspense thriller' is like calling The childhood reader 'Dick and Jane' an epic romance. I teach English and am always on the lookout for books for the pupils. This seemed great until about half way through when it became more and more religious. I only just managed to finish it. Not for anyone who is not a personal Christian! I would get complaints not just from the kids, but definitely from a lot of parents. I read this novel as well as Rogers' Maiden of Orleanse novel and was greatly disappointed with them. Both novels would best appeal to young teen girls who enjoy the Nancy Drew genre, while adult readers would find the suspense and plot very predictable. I thought I would try a 'new' author but after my tryout, I don't recommend the effort to others. I will most happily return to my favorite, more in-depth Christian fiction authors who are far superior in caliber and writing ability, producing guaranteed character development and plot, like Charles Martin, Susan Meissner, Ann Tatlock, etc. In contrast, Rogers' writing style is superficial and the main characters two dimensional with no endearing qualities. Routinely I pass on my favorite read Christian fiction books for others to enjoy but I won't be doing that this time. This book is a short read. It took me an hour to finish. The entire time I was reading it, I felt like I was reading the work of a middle schooler, at best. Parts of the book are unnecessarily detailed the type of Christmas ornaments being put on the tree, which have literally no relevance to the story whatsoever , and other parts are incredibly vague. Many parts of the story include time passing language such as a few days or months later. The writing is incredibly juvenile and choppy. It feels like the author got bored with their own book and skipped over many parts in order to just get it done. Many words repeat annoyingly throughout the story as well. The most prominent words include reflect ed , dude, persons, and busybody. This book was not suspenseful at all. I wouldn't recommend wasting your time on this. See more reviews.
