Why Seychelles has world's worst heroin problem

The Anti-Narcotics Bureau ANB within the Seychelles Police Force and its regional partners are expressing concerns over the amount of heroin, cocaine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine MDMA known as ecstasy and cannabis being imported and trafficked within the Indian Ocean region. Here in Seychelles, ANB officers in collaboration with Immigration and Customs officers have seized the following amount of cocaine and MDMA during the whole of last year to the first half of the year to date. During the month of June last year, He was convicted for the importation of the said drugs and is presently serving a sentence of 15 years imprisonment. ANB would like to stress on the dangers and seriousness which the importation and trafficking of controlled drugs carry, especially heroin and cocaine, both of which are Class A controlled drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act considered to be among the strongest and highest ranking dangerous drugs worldwide and in Seychelles it carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for its trafficking or importation. ANB has noticed that these two mentioned types of drug are being mixed and pushed by traffickers through cannabis rollups. In response, ANB and its partners have joined forces to reemphasise its zero-tolerance policy towards narco-trafficking and are conducting international investigation and operations to disrupt local and international drug networks. More efforts are being placed on those persons who participate in the financing of drug transactions and on the irregular money transactions to countries of interest for drug trafficking origin.
