Nunorthern Soul. It's a fresh reissue of an impossible-to-find promo 45 first issued to promote Flamenco legend El Turronero's disco album, EL Hondo. It features two tracks that have long been regular features in the sets of many dusty-fingered Balearic selectors, especially globe-trotting cult leader DJ Harvey. On the A-side you'll find the cosmic, driving, synth-laden brilliance of 'Las Penas La Cana - a genuine 'everything but the kitchen sink' affair topped off by El Turronero's distinctive vocals - while the more exotic 'Si Yo Volviera Al Nacer', where synths and Sitars accompany the Flamenco-disco grooves, resides on the flip. Favorite France. It finds him digging deep into his vaults and returning with some of his earlier edit work, often with a Balearic feel over deep house drums and 80s disco vibes. The first in the three part series is a real smoother, with sexy and steamy sax lines on 'Yuku Mon Ukulele' bringing a late night feel. There is a slow motion party tune from Alpha Blondy that runs deep, Gerard Blanc then gets a little more upbeat but still with plenty of soulful and loved up vocal vibes and Princesse Erika closes with lush piano stabs and synth strings that light up your heart. Review: A deluxe reissue now available of the acclaimed album by Australian hip hop fusion act The Avalanche' Since I Left You featuring the hit single of the same name. Review: The legendary disco master Dimitri From Paris made the lead a-side remix here back in Three other perfectly Balearic house tunes also make the cut with a super cool, jazz laced Philly mix of 'Soledad', slow and sun kissed vibes from Atlantique and more jazz stylings on the downtempo disco bliss of 'Ou Trover Les Violons. Love Trip 7'. Universal Japan. Review: Mamiya Takako cut her teeth in late-'70s Japanese girl group Pao before striking out on her own with debut album Love Trip. Full of sweet, sugary, synth-laden pop songs that drew on then contemporaneous jazz-funk and soul sounds, the album sold relatively poorly at the time but is now considered something of a classic. This seven-inch single offers up two of the set's more sought-after cuts: the glossy, glassy-eyed and undeniably loved-up title track, 'Love Trip' - think FM synth sounds, soft focus sax solos and bubbly jazz-funk bottom-end -and the slightly more up-tempo, funk-flecked sunset breeze that is 'Midnight Joke'. The latter is particularly delicious thanks to some sublime horn arrangements. Save Us 7'. International Feel Uruguay. Consisting of Stockholm-based musicians Gabriella Borbely aka Bella Boo and Jens Resch Chords , their musical project is said to have begun on a beach in Southern California - and you can certainly hear that influence on the tracks featured on the Save Us EP. The title track featuring vocalist Mapei is a low-slung serving of balearic pop that altogether makes for the perfect summertime groove. Over on the flip is the saucer-eyed chill-out number 'Charly' mixing acid, vocoder and breezy synths into the most evocative and neon-lit experience you'll hear this year. Hell Yeah Italy. Review: Gary Irwin's musical journey since has been long and varied, with spells as an in-house engineer at various studios being combined with occasional releases, mostly of a Balearic flavour, as the Vendetta Suite. The Kempe Stone Portal is his first album and draws on a vast archive of tracks built up over 20 years. Musically, it's subtly diverse in the best possible way, with Irwin delivering colourful, atmospheric and emotive cuts that variously draw influence from ambient, new wave, synth-pop, new age, mids AOR, library music, post-punk, dub, shoegaze and much more besides. That it all not only hangs together but also makes perfect sonic sense is testament to Irwin's skill as a composer, musician and producer. Well worth a listen. Pl'ayers 7'. Lexx Music Switzerland. Review: LX72 aka Lexx is a well regarded Swiss DJ, producer and tastemaker as well as being resident at the much loved Club Zukunft for more than a decade and a half. He knows a thing or two about crafting lovely tunes and this is his latest. Little vocal yelps, funk riffs and finger clicks all make it that bit more irresistible and catchy as it glides you into a late night mood. The Midnight Tenderness Remix is even more drama and spaced out, with dubby bass pillows and cuddly astral pads to sink deep into. Each one finds the legendary French artist dig into his vaults to turn out some of his most Balearic edits and remixes. This second instalment opens with a smoky Chicago house groove run through with steamy French vocals. Midi V's 'Belle Comme Isabelle' is brilliantly old school with more great French vocals sounding superbly libidinous and some fine key solos, then there's Latin deep house on 'Kaoma' and wonderfully native melodies on the Afro-tinged 'Kassav. Modal Soul gatefold 2xLP reeditado. Hyde Out Japan. He released numerous albums in this style, with 's 'Modal Soul' being widely accepted as the finest example. Here it gets the reissue treatment, remarkably appearing on vinyl for the very first time. Featuring some notable collaborations with both rappers and vocalists see Terry Callier's re-recorded vocal on Nujabes' cover of his 'Ordinary Joe' , the album blends both live and programmed beats some hip-hop, others looser and jazzier with impeccable jazz instrumentation, drowsy electronics, deep samples and more intricate musical touches than you can shake a stick at. In other words, it's a genuine fusion classic that has arguably long been overlooked. Realism II incl. The Ambientist mix limited clear vinyl 7'. Imperfect Strangers gram vinyl LP. Emotional Rescue. Review: Emotional Rescue go hunting in the reeds for forgotten projects, and come up trumps once again. Delay Tactics formed at the beginning of the 80s as a tape looping project from Carl Weingarten and Reed Nesbit before expanding their palette with Walter Whitney's synth vamping. They didn't last past their second album, 's Any Questions? The sound is prime inquisitive 80s, teetering between the traditional band dynamic and the experimental pastures of technology-powered music. At times infectiously playful 'Oyster' and at others compellingly beautiful 'Kites' , Delay Tactics are exactly the kind of band that deserve another moment in the sunshine. Dummy heavyweight vinyl LP. Pour L'Amour gram vinyl LP. Review: Emotional Rescue is delighted to offer this compilation of music from Elaine Kibaro and her particular coalesce of chanson, folk, balearic and touch of disco, all encased in her strong French and North African roots. The music included here, released between to , is an expression of her development, of music changes matching growth in life, conveyed through her emotions in song. Opening with the spoken word Introduction from her debut album, 'Mirrors' and the folk rock of melodies of Le Reveil from the follow up, Au Soleil, her early works are characterised by band, orchestra and choirs complimenting her voice as one. This is further heard on the mystical Sorciere, psyche percussion of Secret, the marching Le Guerrier and the inclusion her first 'hit' with Aurore, appearing her in all it's extended, off-kilter guitar meets organ form. Exploring sensitivity and desires the compilation matches these earlier folk and world inspired songs with her move towards electronic production that accompanied a return some 4 years later, adding balearic and even pop dance found on 's Le Long De Fleuve Amour and the following opus, in Kiroel. L'Amour Pour Bouclier and Ne Doute Pas lift her music higher towards lovers' heights, with word, melody, and rhythm giving the desire to dance and be free, while her continuing exploration of chanson and spoken word takes on new meanings via the new wave meets estoric Douleur, while the emotionally charged soundscape of Kiroel brings balance. Inspired by the purity of song, Kibaro's music's has a timeless essence to behold; a voice and words found through life experience - beauty, discovery, nature and dreams. A love and hope in music, her quest for the infinite potential in song. Raw Tones Pandemic Blues limited random coloured vinyl 10' in screen-printed sleeve. Sacred Rhythm US. Psychedelic Digestion Therapy LP. Strangelove New Zealand. Embassy One. Review: Monolink has been teasing his long-awaited new album Under Darkening Skies for a long time. Finally it is here and it ushers in a new chapter for the esteemed producer after two years of hard graft and plenty of 'love and frustration' in the studio. It is an honest, vulnerable sound with syrupy synths and gentle drum grooves overlaid with folky acoustic guitars. The song writing is standout, too, with plenty of hummable top lines and memorable hooks hanging in the air over the pulsing rhythms. Many have tried to fuse electronic music with indie before now, but few have ever done it better than Steffen Linck. New Energy gatefold 2xLP reeditado. Review: If you were judging Kieran Hebden's 11th Four Tet studio album merely on the way it's presented, you'd immediately think he'd spent the last two years immersed in early '90s ambient house albums. While it's unlikely he's done that, it's fair to say that New Energy does owe a debt to classic electronica sets from that period. For all the exotic instrumentation and subtle nods to post-dubstep 'aquacrunk' experimentalism and chiming, head-in-the-clouds sunrise house, the album feels like a relic of a lost era. That's not meant as a criticism - New Energy is superb - but it is true that his choice of neo-classical strings, gentle new age melodies, sweeping synthesizer chords and disconnected vocal samples would not sound out of place on a Global Communication album. Metaphorical Music gatefold 2xLP reeditado. Hyde Out Productions US. Review: Despite selling out instantly on first press back in November , it is only now that Nujabes' first solo album 'Metaphorical Music' makes it to wax once more. This most spiritual of hip hop records - first released in - brings together downtempo, trip hop, instrumental, classic era boom bap, neo soul and funk into an accomplished collection of tunes that pack a dance floor as well as heartfelt punch. The album showcases some of the best music that the hip hop genre is capable of. Do not miss this, as it won't be around for long. I Wanna Be 5 Semitones Down 12'. When Doves Cry. As the name may well suggest, we have a perfectly pitched down R'n'B number that many will be familiar with called 'I Wanna Be 5 Semitones Down', which comes with a handy instrumental edit over on the flip. Through dewy pads and echoing percs, they concoct a late night anthem for the club and the bedroom. Mezzanine 2xLP. Review: Originally issued back in , Mezzanine remains the most commercially successful album released by Bristol troupe Massive Attack, thanks in no small part to the Liz Fraser-featuring 'Teardrop'. This third album signalled a change in sonic direction that played more explicitly on the darkness and tension that was always an undercurrent of their much loved debut Blue Lines and successor Protection. After numerous bootlegs over the years, Virgin have done the right thing and presented this official reissue of Mezzanine to appease fans of Massive Attack and it's clear the LP has lost none of it's bewitching power. Her Revolution limited 12'. Review: Released back in , Rounds was the third LP from Kieran Hebden as Four Tet and perhaps the first long player that widely established him as a pioneering voice within electronic music. Though it doesn't feel like a decade since it was released, Domino celebrate the album's tenth anniversary in requisite fashion here, reissuing it in double LP format and slipping in a CD of Four Tet performing live in Copenhagen in Listening back now, it's easy to understand why Rounds is viewed as an early classic in the Four Tet canon, transferring his love for free jazz records to a beat template that's more palatable on the ear Fact pickers might want to know that Hebden recently revealed to Pitchfork the LP was made entirely from samples 'She Moves She' still sounds absolutely haunting too! Late Night Tales. Review: Inspired by the slightly unlikely collision of the Thai music of the '70s and The Shadows, Khruangbin - the name means 'aeroplane' in Thailand - are purveyors of a deliriously mellow and beguiling form of jammed-out power-trio guitar music - far removed from standard notions of psych and dreampop, partly owing to its pan-global influences, its nonetheless both psychedelic and dreamy, not to mention possessed of an unhurried, reflective and spacious lilt that renders this Texan-London outfit a rare treat in an information-saturated age, taking on delicate soul and funk with exotic atmospheres and making the journey feel both blissful and effortless. Dead Oceans US. Review: 'Mordechai is another blissed-out record from Texan party-chill-psyche trio Khruangbin. It's also among the outfit's most defined and driven, a smooth, sticky hot funk odyssey made for hazy afternoon soirees. Leader Laura Lee is, as ever, unfathomably siren-like on vocals, her bass grooves aiding the process of seduction no end. Even at the most upbeat and anthemic, 'Time You and I ', it's hard not to feel woozy and intoxicated by the pared-back breaks and guitar lick combination. Dance floor ammo for sure, as is Pelota. Overall, though, it's an album best savoured slowly, allowing you to fully appreciate every lackadaisical moment of opiate goodness, with tracks such as 'Father Bird, Mother Bird', 'One To Remember' and 'Shida' summoning stunning sticky, heavy, deep atmospheres. They're on cracking form for this return to Uber, kicking off with the sultry 'Tones Of Ballad', which gets a subtle beefing up from Drifts Projects on the remix. Guest Edits Vol 1 12'. Review: Cuts is a new label that is here to try and make an impression on the always bustling world of disco edits. We head straight to the Med' on opener 'Covert Action' which is a classy 60s sound that has you in mind of sipping cocktails in your finest white linen. There is a real sense of glam to the trio future stomp of 'Microchips' ad then closing things out is the slow motion, steamy disco smoother 'Fragments Of My Dreams. Endtroducing gram vinyl 2xLP. Big Calm heavyweight vinyl LP. Sweet Season gram vinyl 2xLP. Review: Glen Velez is perhaps not a household name, but let Emotional Rescue change that with this wonderfully curated collection of works from a masterful drum devotee. Velez has Latin American roots, and he has performed since the late 60s in New York, but his interest in percussion spans the globe and all kinds of hand drums. His respected techniques have been snapped up by collaborators like John Cage and Steve Reich, not least thanks to the advanced polyrhythmic modes he operates in. Don't be fooled though - this isn't just a drum record. Accompanying musicians shape out the hypnotic percussion in a variety of transcendental moods that make this an invigorating listen start to finish. Vathek gram vinyl LP. Review: Emotional Rescue turns its attention to Spanish artist Luis Delgado, who made a name for himself fusing traditional folk music from across the globe with experimental electronic practice. His first album Vathek stands as one of his masterworks, originally released in and featuring a range of different electro-acoustic approaches that draw you in with their strange, dynamic textures. Diverse, engrossing listening from the outer reaches. Review: The always excellent Emotional Rescue comes to save us all once more with another of its perfectly escapist releases. This particular 7' comes from Silver Leaf, a short-lived mids project out of Cincinnati, Ohio with a mysterious vocalist. The band was discovered by crate diggers on both sides of the Atlantic and now rightfully get brought to our attention with two brilliantly unique tunes. Play gram vinyl 2xLP. Reprise gatefold grey vinyl 2xLP. Our Love heavyweight vinyl LP. Review: Some four years after Swims brought the work of Dan Snaith to the attention of a whole new audience, the London-based Canadian artist returns with a sixth Caribou album entitled Our Love. Staunch followers of Caribou will know that Snaith tends to adopt different sonic approaches with every long player compare the psychedelia of Up In Flames with the more spaced out Andorra but this latest album feels like a natural development of the club influenced sounds of Swims. City Slang call it Snaith's most soulful set yet, and that's certainly helped by the presence of compatriot Jessy Lanza, and like all Caribou albums there is something new that appeals with every listen. Infinite Zest gatefold gram vinyl 2xLP. Rightly recognised by the leaders in that scene, he's been quiet for the best part of 20 years, but now he returns with the stunning, fully-rendered wonderment of 'Infinite Zest'. This is an album bursting with colour and musicality, as gorgeous instrumentation meets with tenderly executed disco with a distinctly Norwegian mood. From the starry-eyed synth interplay of 'Alina' to the noodling funk of 'Nussing', Marius Dahle's skill as an arranger and producer is a revelation. A well-deserved, long awaited return to the fray from a rightful peer of Prins Thomas, Lindstrom et al.. Fantastic Denmark. He inaugurates the Fantastic label with this beautiful summer groover, leading in with a plush remix from Italian maestro Luca Moplen. It's a feistier affair than Midtgaard's ever-so-slightly hazy original version, but both retain the core chord sequence that makes this such a heart-rending beauty of a track. The B side opens up with said original mix before Salta is then drafted in for a remix that leaves the disco locomotion behind for a breezier samba groove over which to play some delightfully warbling keys. Trans Canada Highway LP. One of the most defining records of what was known for better or worse as IDM still sounds as timeless as it did in , as the library tones of 'Wildlife Analysis', thick downtempo rhythms of 'Roygbiv' and out of focus melodies of 'Olson' prove. Kan SANO. Everybody Loves The Sunshine 7'. Review: Who can deny anything Roy Ayers, really? Japanese pianist and electronic music producer Kan Sano reworks the American soul, funk and jazz legend's infamous hit 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine'. He breaks down the sugar-dusted original into something freeform, downtempo and acid jazz leaning, while on the flip, 'Music Overflow', sounds exactly like a production you would make after being inspired by sunshine, soul, Roy Ayers and a room full of drum machines and synthesisers. Roisin Machine gatefold heavyweight vinyl 2xLP. Review: Former Moloko singer Roisin Murphy proves with this new album she is still a force to be reckoned with. It bristles with dance floor kinetics and fizzing electronic synths that come laden with her outsider pop vocals. Roisin Machine is a collaboration with Sheffield producer Richard Barratt and the results include tracks that touch on feelings of frustration and romance, modern Britain and plenty more besides, all with plenty of his rugged production, bit also plenty of super sweet rolling grooves and funky bass riffs. The hip-swinging 'Murphy's Law' is a particular highlight from, this perennially underrated artist. Psychic 2xLP. Here, the duo dusts down the Darkside alias once more for a first collaborative album. Predictably, it's an impressive set, offering a collection of downtempo tracks that shuffle between crackly, out-there atmospherics 'Sitra', reminiscent of much of Jaar's Space is Only Noise album , echo-laden alt-rock experimentalism 'Heart' and heart-aching fragility the James Blake-ish 'Greek Light'. An Introduction reissue limited coloured vinyl LP. Music For Dreams Denmark. Unique Tiger gram vinyl LP. Mellophonia France. Review: A Vision Of Panorama have the kind of quintessentially inviting sound that by rights should find him soundtracking every sojourn from the swanky lounge bar to the sunkissed terrace, no matter the crowd. If you already dig the Panorama sound, you know what to expect. Plush, symphonic synth tapestries dripping with good vibes and accomplished musicality. You might get the odd dash of sultry sax, as on album highlight 'The Light', but primarily this is a place to revel in Khvasko's illustrious, feel-good keys. How To Be gram vinyl 12'. The band's name is a combination of french «c'etrange» and english «stranger». Two deep and emotional songs accompanied by two great remixes. Perfect for understanding yourself and strangers around better, or just some good night drive. The band members themselves call this music 'a cinematic electronics', a motion picture about people and their feelings told in sounds. The opening track sets the scene. Cetranger sound is freezed in the air somewhere over the North Sea, between Britain and Nordic Countries. The unique vocal is travelling by these foggy landscapes build up of the piano harmonies. The remix by D-pulse turns original version into a laid-back dub version with a bit of a psychedelia, where electrified kraut-rock drumline is mingled with mellow funk elements. The second track by Cetranger, 'Spear-words', shows the true with Cetranger's style and some undeniable potential in slowed-down rhythms. Alex Neivel's remix gives a track some classy well treated deep house spin. Perfect building block for a late-night set. Castles In Space. This Is A Knife 1-sided 10'. That's Not A Knife. Review: The platform is extremely crowded, however, and she can't get to Mick, who is standing at the opposite end, so she shouts his name. Two other passengers relay the message to Mick that Sue wants to talk with him. When the message finally gets to Mick, he tries to make his way through the crowd but he can't get to Sue, so he climbs on top of the crowd and walks over the people's shoulders to get to her. In the final scene, they embrace while the crowd cheers. The Spirit Of Ibiza 12'. Balearia Italy. Review: It's a bold move to call your EP The Spirit of Ibiza when so many different people have so many wildly different views on just what that might sound like. The second release on the Balearia label makes a good crack at it though with sunset house vibes, lush percussion and plenty of tropical feels. The DJ Fede original is a rolling, tom-peppered groove with bird calls and balmy pads all transporting you straight to the med. Adding real authenticity is the Balearic master Don Carlos with a remix that cops up the groove to make for something more funky but just as humid and sun baked. Massimino Lippoli then pairs things back to a late night Ibiza vibe, with a rugged baseline overlaid with a sprinkling of hippie hand drums. Reflection limited numbered gatefold gram audiophile marbled vinyl LP. Music On Vinyl. Review: When they delivered their stupendously sample-heavy debut album, Since I Left You, back in , The Avalanches were tipped for big things. For some reason, they failed to capitalize, all but fading from view. That album remains a much-loved listen for many people so there has been an expected degree of anticipation regarding this follow-up, Wildflower. Happily, it's something of a resounding success, with the Melbourne trio serving up another whirlwind trip through sample-heavy, hip-hop era psychedelia. At 21 tracks deep, and with more changes of direction than your average three-week cycle race, it's something of a beast. It is, though, well worth the effort, as repeat listens simply uncovers more layers of hazy, glassy-eyed goodness be it bluesy trip-hop, slipped disco, dreamy acid-pop, folksy beat-scapes or baked hypno-rock. Days To Come 2xLP. Tomorrow's Harvest gatefold 2xLP. Certainly, it's a fine set. During their sabbatical, Marcus Eoin and Michael Sandison have lost none of their power to amaze and impress. Chords drone, samples hiss, synths shimmer and beats swing. There are intense ambient moments and intoxicating, post-IDM dreamscapes. It is in turns icy, warm, introspective and blindingly picturesque. Throughout, Tomorrow's Harvest is impeccably atmospheric, conjuring images of windswept Scottish moors, becalmed Cornish bays and maudlin pagan ceremonies. As comeback records go, it's pretty darn good. No Protection reissue heavyweight vinyl LP. Review: Given Massive Attack's background, it was almost inevitable that they'd release a dub overhaul of one of their albums at one point. That time came in , when British sound system legend Mad Professor - responsible for some of the greatest UK-made dub records of all time - put his distinctive twist on Protection. It's packed with highlights, from the spaced-out, dub-house rework of 'Spying Glass' 'I Spy' , to the ricocheting percussion hits and twinkling pianos of 'Weather Storm Cool Monsoon ', and creepy, delay-laden string surges of 'Eternal Feedback Sly '. This album is a fine place to start, as Weingarten teams up with Walter Whitney for an engrossing exploration of ambient synth work merged with careful use of slide guitar and more besides. It's very much of its time, originally released on Multiphase in , and it's as charming and naive as it is accomplished. There's a new age sweetness to the harmonic composition, but the sound palette is deceptively deep, not least thanks to Weingarten's multifaceted approaches to his instrument. International Noise Orchestra was born out of a collaboration between Berliner Ulrich Homberg and Algerian drummer Jol Allouche, first embarked on in the s when they sought to combine 'new technology with old'. The results are wonderfully vibrant, evocative of the era but also packed with open-ended experimentation that sounds fresh more than 30 years later. There's a push and pull between the collaborating parties, but the frisson between cultures and methods is where this record gets its unique groove from, all delivered with a slick 80s cool it's hard to resist. Review: The second round of Man Jumping remixes on Emotional Rescue sees another strike force of big hitters tackling the illustrious material from an overlooked 80s curio. Bullion steps up first with a typically dynamic, many-sided version of 'In The Jungle'. Reckonwrong's take on 'Sqeezi' channels his twee, off-kilter pop tendencies in brilliant fashion. A weird and wonderful series of sound sources delta the record from oriental strings to wooden percussion, mystic voices and water effects, all making this a spell binding listen. Three years on, the experienced duo has finally recorded a debut album. It's naturally imaginative, eclectic and atmospheric in tone, effortlessly gliding between humid, Afro-influenced deepness 'Midnattsol' , dark and spacey dancefloor moods 'Samsa' , fuzzy epics 'Six Million Ways' , hushed tech-house 'The Ghosts Hood' , stretched-out wonkiness the hypnotic 'Dins El Lit' , and a variety of intriguing downtempo explorations. Wisely, the Swedish artist embraced the opportunity for eclecticism that the format provides, filling his debut full-length with a mix of tracks variously designed for sofa-bound listening and dancing in clubs. There's a jazz-flecked beauty to the crackly downtempo grooves offered up by the title track, while the dreamy, guitar-laced head-nodder 'Sylvia' recalls the best of his Balearic-influenced work. Notional was a short-lived project that manifested in one album back in , originally released on Japanese label Zero Corporation. Yawn Yawn Yawn focused primarily on various Balearic-friendly mixes of the title track and some other scattered pieces, and now they've received a much-needed spruce up from Archeo Recordings. The 'Dream Another Reality' versions of 'Yawn Yawn Yawn' are laid back to the extreme, revolving around delicate instrumentation and occasional threads of speech and singing. With the other tracks adding to this utterly smooth, early 90s shake, and spread across three discs, this is the holy grail reissue collectors have been waiting for. It combines post-rave ambient, breakbeats, IDM and deep house into a real trip. EP gram vinyl 12'. Review: You'll probably already be acquainted with the name Manuel Gottsching - and you should be - but just in case you aren't, he was a pillar of Ash Ra Tempel's golden years and, among other of his contemporaries, was a pioneer of the genre that is often dubbed 'new age'. E2-E4 was a solo album from the man, and is certainly up there with the likes of Steve Reich's best minimal material, although it has often gone relatively unnoticed. MG Art from Germany have done us the favour of reissuing this monumental release, and we're utterly awestruck by how contemporary and fresh this album still is. In fact, one could say that a tune like '31'38' is the basis for the sound championed by new labels like Mood Hut, where a significantly danceable beat is laid above placid, warm harmonics. Similarly, '23'00' is just as balearic and phased out but, once again, we just can't believe how great this music still sounds more than thirty years later. Warmly recommended. Unseen Music US. And that is the sort of effect Helios's music has on you - it is both calm but adventurous, an album of musical wanderlust with blissful piano and beautiful sustained drones layered up over heaver rhythmical elements. On his latest release titled Music For Xavier Veilhan, it features 'Music for Les Rayons Sarus ' which was created for a sculpture by the named artist. Review: Andres y Xavi serve up their fantastic first album and take us to a perfect idyllic spot somewhere by the sea. These grown up Balearic sounds combine everything great about warm, sunny music - rolling dub rhythms, exotic percussive sounds and lush, yearning melodies. They work to accompany a lazy afternoon spent laying horizontal or an early evening dance at sunset. The musicians ship is second to none, with killer acoustic riffs, right drum work and smart samples all making up this most colourful and charismatic of downtempo albums. Review: Given his impressive track record, hopes are naturally high for Bonobo's sixth album, Migration, which is his first full-length since Happily, it's a majestic affair, with the producer delivering another sumptuous set of tracks. It was partly inspired by an extended period musing on the nature of personal identity, and the role that nationality plays in that. This concept is translated via thoughtful lyrics, and songs that draw musical influence from the four corners of the globe. It's not a big stylistic leap, of course - his bread and butter remains yearning, emotion-rich downtempo music built around gently jazzy grooves and impeccable live instrumentation - but given that few artists do it better than Bonobo, we'll forgive him for that. Review: Since first emerging at the tail end of the '90s, Simon Green has become downtempo music's most marketable star, appealing just as much to occasional listeners and something housewives as underground heads. Throughout that time, he's carefully shifted his sound to take in current trends and musical developments, whilst retaining a certain picturesque aesthetic. This fifth full-length, his fourth for Ninja Tune, continues that trend. Review: Emotional Rescue dig out a quintessential private press curio and give it a tasteful 7' release that should tickle all lovers of blue-eyed soul with a subtle electronic kink. There's a smooth pop nous at the heart of 'Passion', but also a naivety in the production that hints at the bedroom studio roots of 4AM's limited forays into recorded work. There's space for Fairlight-esque stabs and something approaching an acid bassline, but it's all framed in a mellifluous slice of melodious groove. Fajrann 40 gram vinyl 7'. Review: Elaine Kibaro is a French singer who grew up in Tunisia before enjoying a reasonably productive career in the late 70s and through the 80s. Emotional Rescue caught on to her fine contributions to the disco world via the Pour L'Amour collection, and now they offer up a pair of alternative cuts that add to the overall legacy of her career peak. Review: The third volume of International Noise Orchestra archival dives from Emotional Rescue sees no let up in the dizzying, dazzling displays of visionary 80s production from this curious German-Algerian project. The fusion between bold and brash synths and samples with Jol Allouche's drumming is fluid throughout. On lead track 'The Atlantic Swimmer' the project sounds incredibly of its time but also utterly out of time and space in its futuristic outernational reverie. Stellar, spellbinding stuff highly deserving of a second airing. St Germain 2xLP. Review: Ludovic Navarre aka St Germain requires no introduction, and the French house legend has literally seen and done it all ever since his first productions began to surface and influence other house artists back in the early 's golden era. The majority of his music has been released on F Communications, but his latest studio album drops on EMI's Parlophone sublabel. The self-titled St Germain is a proper LP, not a mere collection of house tracks put together helter-skelter. Inside, you'll hear many of Navarre's influences and inspirations, from Afro tribal melodies, to jazzy influences and even Middle-Eastern chimes. It's a house album in structure, but much more than that beneath the surface Pause LP.
