Serbia and Montenegro have about 10,, inhabitants and are situated in Southeastern Europe. Being located on one of the major drug routes connecting the Near East and Central and Western Europe, as well as being exposed to severe economic and political crisis during the past two decades, has created serious problems for the country regarding drug availability and use. Tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use among youth represents a serious problem. Especially vulnerable are the high school and college populations. Unfortunately, there are no national epidemiologic studies on this topic, and the real dimensions of the problem are unknown. The purpose of this work was to provide a clearer picture of the substance abuse among the youth in Serbia.
