Nerissa Reaves, an accomplished educator and college professor, recently went viral on Wednesday, but it wasn’t over a handshake or an unorthodox teaching method, but because of her body.
In the video, which was clipped from Reaves’ live feed, Reaves is shown as she gives a standard lesson to a group of college students.
But people in the comments quickly tagged The ShadeRoom which re-posted the video to its millions of followers.
On both Reaves page and on TheShadeRoom, commentators went back and forth over whether Reaves was “dressed appropriately,” even though she was fully clothed wearing a sweater or jeans.
“Forgive me for not wearing baggy jeans from the 90’s. Where would I even buy those?Tons of professors at my school [wear] jeans and heels,” she wrote. “Yes, I understand that my shape causes a lot of attention on social media but in real life it’s a bit different,” she continued.
Along with teaching, Reaves is also a model who uses her social media platforms to promote her life and brand. She also is the founder of an online school named Northeastern Ascension Academy, according to her website.
“It is is a bit different that I’m a teacher who also has a social media presence and models? Sure. I’m sure that’s quite unique because that’s not something you see often,” Reaves wrote. “However, that’s what makes me who I am-my range, depth and multi-faceted capabilities. I think it’s awesome that I’m not like every other teacher and that I can’t be boxed into categories traditionally defined by society.”
As we know, policing women’s bodies is still alive and well, especially when it comes to full figured, full body women. Reaves took to her personal page to address the “controversy” with her followers. And the criticism that follows Reaves has definitely sprung up on several different occasions in regards to Black female teachers.

These saucy outfits weren’t in the lesson plan.
An elementary school educator has been blasted for teaching in tight clothing, with some outraged parents describing her as “desperate” and “attention-seeking.”
The New Jersey teacher — who has not disclosed her full name — has clocked up 870,000 followers on her @ToyboxDollz Instagram account, where she shares photos of her figure-hugging ensembles, often taken in her classroom.
In some saucy snaps, the buxom brunette can be seen flaunting her figure up against a whiteboard. In other images, her students are visible inside the classroom, although their faces are not identifiable.
Many have praised the body-confident educator for her fashion prowess, but some parents on social media say she should not be wearing such outfits around minors.
“You’re in a classroom taking Instagram pictures with your a– out,” one ranted beneath an eye-popping “booty” photo . “Showing pictures in the class with your butt in the air is very inappropriate!”
“That just looks crazy and makes you desperate for likes,” another raged.
A third blasted: “You’re sad, taking booty pics during class?”
However, the teacher has hit back, sharing a live, 14-minute video to her @ToyboxDollz account defending her Instagram images.
“I have seen some men said some crazy, mean stuff, but I teach babies and there are no haters in the classroom thinking of that,” the brunette — who specializes in art education — declared.
“I’m a really, really good teacher,” she continued. “I had students emailing me during the summer asking me for homework. They love art. I love teaching art. I love working with children to create art.”
Viewers showered praise on the educator, applauding her “passion” for her job and reminding her that “haters are gonna hate.”
Meanwhile, she has even found a surprising supporter in famous rapper Fat Joe, who created a video claiming critics are trying to get the beauty “fired” from her job.
“They’re trying to fire her because she too sexy,” the rapper — real name Joseph Antonio Cartagena — said in a YouTube video. “She too beautiful. She’s too curvaceous.”
“I say let the woman be great,” he continued, “Can you fire somebody for their looks? Can you fire a teacher that’s ugly? How can you fire a teacher because she bad?”
The Post has reached out to the teacher via her social media account for comment.

A Florida substitute teacher was busted for having sex with a teenage student who allegedly shared one of their trysts in a Snapchat video, law enforcement officials said.
Ayanna Davis, 20, a substitute English teacher at Lakeland High School, was arrested on Friday after she admitted to having unprotected sex with the student four times — twice at her house and twice at the victim’s house, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release .
Davis’ admission matched with statements made by the victim, whose exact age wasn’t disclosed but was listed in the release as 16 years old or younger .
Authorities launched a probe of the teacher on Dec. 3, after a student informed the school’s resource officer that a Snapchat video was circulating that showed Davis having sex with a student. The video was reportedly shown to a large group of the school’s football team.
Law enforcement officials have not yet been able to view the video, but are working on tracking it down.
“I know it’s out there someplace,” Sheriff Grady Judd told WFLA .
After her interview with police, Davis was charged by the sheriff’s office with two counts of sexual battery by custodian and offenses against students by an authority figure. She additionally was charged with two additional counts of sexual battery by the Lakeland Police Department.
“This is a clear violation of sexual battery laws. She was in a position of influence over the victim, and she took advantage of that for her own twisted pleasure,” Judd said.
She made her first court appearance on Dec. 11, when a $60,000 bond was ordered for all five charges. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 10, 2022.
According to officials, Davis is not a Polk County Public Schools employee, but served at Lakeland High School as a substitute teacher through staffing company Kelly Education Services.
The company has been instructed that Davis is no longer able to work in any Polk County public schools, officials said.
“We expect substitute teachers to uphold the same high standards of conduct and professionalism as our full-time educators,” said Superintendent Frederick Heid in a statement . “The charges against this person are disgraceful and a complete violation of the trust that teachers build with their students. There is no room in our schools for this type of conduct.”
The Polk County school district changed its policy in October permitting anyone 20 years old or older with a high school or GED diploma to be a substitute teacher, according to WFLA.
