The Ebony Mail , also suffixed as Ebony Mail of Sneaking and Poison Radius Damage , is a Daedric Artifact granted by the Daedric Prince Boethiah upon completing a quest which varies across each title in the series . Initially appearing in The Elder Scrolls: Arena , the only game in the main series that it does not appear in is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion . Worn about the chest as armor , the artifact is typically black in color across games with various magical effects .
During the Third Era , the Eternal Champion was an owner of the mail. It was hidden in Black Marsh after the previous owner, a warrior named Helath Stormbinder lost the favor of Boethiah. Following a strange map, the Eternal Champion eventually found the resting place of the mail and retrieved it for his war against Jagar Tharn .

When worn, the Mail protects the wearer from fire , magicka , and casts a Shield spell upon the Nerevarine .
In Skyrim the Ebony Mail can be obtained by defeating the former Champion of Boethiah during the quest " Boethiah's Calling ." It produces a muffle effect while worn and causes 5 points recurring poison damage per second to enemies within a radius of the Dragonborn .

You are able to move more quietly , and opponents that get too close take 5 points poison damage per second.
The damage of the Ebony Mail can extend to any followers who are near you, so do not stand too near them for too long. Also note that, when under attack, the poison smoke from the mail can make it hard to see your enemy.
