The Black diaspora is vast and incorporates so many beautiful intricacies. How one self-identifies is personal, though it can be the cause of many debates and arguments. By recognizing the diverse ancestry of our community, we acknowledge that we can come in many different shades and stripes yet it doesn’t necessarily negate our fierce sense in pride of our own Black community or culture.
May is AAPI month. There are Black folks who share an intersectional connection with the AAPI community and identify as such, including the Haitian-Japanese tennis superstar Naomi Osaka and the first female Vice President, Kamala Harris , who is of Indian descent. Below, we honor a few dope celebrities who are both a part of the Black diaspora and the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

Interracial marriages between Asians and Blacks may not be that common, but children born from such marriages are generally good-looking. Historically, Asians and Blacks have been marginalized due to the rampant social conflicts and immigration issues in the Afro-Asian population. Up to date, much hasn’t changed. As a result, the marriages between blacks and Asians have become more of a rare occurrence. But some of the world’s famous celebrities that are of mixed races are actually half Black and half Asian . Here’s a listing of famous half Black half Asian celebrities that might actually surprise you. 
Chanel Iman was born on 30th November in 1989 in Los Angels California. Her mother is a half African-American and a half Korean, while her dad is an African-American. She’s the fashion model that came third in the 2006 Ford supermodel and later got signed by the same agency. Since then, she’s been modelling for several top designers like Dolce and Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Anna Soi among others.
Naomi Campbell is a half black half asian celebrity who was born on 22 may, 1970. Her father is of mixed heritage — half Jamaican half Chinese, while her mother is a black Jamaican. She’s an English supermodel and actress who has appeared in several blockbusters. As reported by a British newspaper, Campbell has never seen her biological father, who is believed to have left her mother while she was still pregnant.
Ne Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, is an RNB singer, rapper, songwriter, actor and a record producer. He is one of the artists with a tremendous success in the entertainment industry as seen by his several hit songs that have been topping different charts from all across the world. In addition, he has produced two best-selling albums that have topped over 200 charts. His mother is half African-American and half Chinese, while his dad is an African-American. Both of his parents were musicians.
Kelis Jones is another half black half Asian celebrity. She was born on August 21, 1979. Kelis Jones or simply Kelis is an RNB singer and a songwriter who was once married to the rapper, Nas. She was born to a mother who is half Chinese and half Puerto Rican and a father who is an African-American. She has produced several RNB singles that have topped different charts in both the US and the UK.
Tiger Woods, or Eldrick Tiger Woods, is a world-class talented golfer. He’s one of the celebrities who can boast of being born from a multi-racial heritage. His father is a half African-American, a quarter American-Indian and a Quarter Chinese. His mother, Kutilda, is also of a mixed ethnicity — Half Thai, quarter Dutch and a quarter Chinese.
Marie Rogers, whose stage name is Amerie, is an American RNB and pop singer, a producer, a dancer and an actress who has been nominated for Grammy Awards two times. Her mother- an artist by the name Mi Suk, was Korean and her father, Charles, was an African-American.
Henry William Demps, or Simply Will Demps, was born on November 7th, 1979 in Charleston South Carolina. He was an American football safety, but currently, he is not so active in football now. He has played for San Diego State football, Houston Texas and New York Giants. In 2002, he was signed to Baltimore Ravens as a free agent. He is the elder brother of Marcus Demps, a former NFL star. Demp’s mother is Korean while his father is an African-American.
Cassandra Ventura or Cassie is an American model, RNB singer, songwriter and an actress. She was born in Connecticut London ( 26th August 1986) before moving to New York to jump-start her modelling and music career. Her father is Filipino while her mother is a half African-American and half Mexican.
Rae Dawn Chong (born on February 28th, 1961) is an American-Canadian actress. She’s popularly known for appearing in several blockbusters: “The colour purple” in 1985, “far out man” in 1990, “Commando” in 1985, Choose me” in 1984 among others. She even won the Genie award in 1983 as the best performing actress. Her father comes from a Scotch-Irish and Chinese heritage while her mother is of an African-Canadian Descent.
Kimora Lee Simon ( born on May 4th, 1975) is a half black half Asian author, fashion model as well as the creative director and president of Baby Phat. Her mother (Joanne Perkin), is Japanese and her father (Vernon Whitlock) is an African-American. She was raised in the Florissant suburbs of St Louis, Missouri, by her mother after she had divorced Lee’s father. She started modeling when she was 10 before Marie Christine Kollock discovered her two years later.
