Established in 2015 Ujima The National Center on Violence Against Women in the Black Community, addresses the pervasive issues of sexual assault, and domestic and community violence within the Black Community.
Overall, one-in-four face abuse before the age of 18. Society's devaluing of Black girls is rooted in the adultification of Black children. According to research by the Center on Poverty and Inequality, some adults believe Black girls need less nurturing and protection than white girls, and know more about adult topics and sex.

Considering the overrepresentation of Black women and girls in jails, prisons, and detention centers—and the underreporting of abuse and sexual violence—the impact of gender-based violence on Black women and girls who are incarcerated is significant.
By adulthood, one in four Black girls will have experienced sexual abuse, and 40% to 60% of Black women report coercive sexual contact before the age of 18.
