"If the edge of the quilt has a fringe or interesting pattern, make sure it's visible to add some sparkle," she adds. Smith shares this clean, modern look. "For a more casual, realistic feel, you can throw a blanket over the corner of the sofa and place it next to some pillows," he says. For an ultra-clean aesthetic, Davis Taylor recommends folding the quilt lengthwise 3 times. Set it apart on a corner bench and place a pillow on top.
Consider the size and style of the sofa.
"For a full-size sofa, fold the blanket in half behind the sofa and tuck it behind the pillows," advises Anastasia Casey of Identitè Collective. "If you have a sectional sofa with a recliner, fold the quilt in half and place it under the recliner."
Think about where your sofa is.
If you have an open floor plan, "the back of your pattern is usually visible -- like the stitching that goes through the back after the pattern is assembled," Smith points out. In these cases, he recommends folding the blanket behind the pillow and the back of the sofa to hide the seams. Hemmed or seamless, however, the back of the sofa is still a great place to throw a blanket. "It's a great way to break up the sofa color and introduce a new printed or textured fabric without confusing the upholstery," says Davis Taylor. "Fold the quilt so it's about the length of the sofa, then wrap it around the back under the pillows." This technique instantly adds dimension to your entire room design. "From the front, you have a great piece of fabric on the back of the pillow," says Davis Taylor. "From the back, you have a nice clean line and a fun pop."
React to the weather.
If you and your guests actually use the blankets - not just visually appreciate them - practicality is what counts. Unfortunately, there is no aesthetically pleasing way to hang multiple folded blankets on the sofa to accommodate multiple guests. Instead, fold a throw on the couch according to the instructions above, then place a chunky basket in the corner of the room, Smith says, and fill it with extra throws. This allows guests to have everything they need for comfort without compromising on neat style.
