I wanted to get a feel on how people think of the up close and personal ear eating (noms) and licking phenomena which seems to have become very popular over the last year or so, at least to my observations of the many ASMRtists I'm subbed to on YT.
Personally I hate it, it's up there with chewing food next to the mic. Oddly enough, kissing ASMR is personally very stimulating where the sound isn't THAT different. I am aware this is turning into somewhat of a rant against a thing but it is slightly frustrating to get an alert from YT that one of your fav ASMRtists uploaded a new video only to be disappointed to see it's yet another ear consumption video.
Thinking about it a little myself I think that the trigger sounds, visuals and other factors are pretty much like fingerprints for all of us. Not one video works the exact same way for anybody. The very same video of someone whispering (binaural) will send person A into tingle heaven, person B shutting it off in disgust, person C getting an occasional tingle here and there and person D getting nothing.
Anyway, give us your thoughts on the saliva fest videos of late.
I have pretty bad asmr immunity and mostly use asmr videos to help me relax before going to bed, and not usually for asmr itself. Ear licking/eating tend to do a good job of this for me and are one of the few types of video that still occasionally give me a bit of asmr.
I absolutely HATE these trends! They look and sound absolutely disgusting. They give me negative triggers. I'm not kidding. They make me twitch and cringe so bad. They give me an extremely volatile reaction, as in I truly hate the triggers that they give me. Worse than nails on a chalkboard.
Honestly, I really think that it's a cheap way to get likes by "enticing" people with a clearly sexual context. There's some ASMRtists that I downright despise, and don't really respect. Because this is mainly what they use, and I think it's cheap and talentless.
But of course, this will get downvoted in to oblivion because people aren't allowed to share an opinion on here regarding something that they don't like. "If you don't like it, don't watch". Well no shit. I don't like Family Guy, either. But if the subject comes up, I'm going to share my contempt.
For real. I don't care what anyone says. Someone making a video of themselves "eating", licking, and sucking someone's "ears" is clearly trying to entice them. Especially the way some of these ASMRtists do it.
Ugh. Wet mouth sounds, eating, gum chewing etc give me crazy misphonia. I'm hating this trend.
The sounds you hate are some of my favorites, LOL. Have you tried requesting specific triggers from your favorite ASMRtists? I mean, there seems to be plenty of variety for everyone if you look around a bit. A couple years ago it was WORK finding a good mouth sounds video.
I love ear eating sounds. Arguably my favorite trigger.
I get why some people don't like it though.
I think eating sounds and excessive mouth sounds are gross. I suspect I'm in the minority because as you say they seem to be quite popular.
I'm also not very found of these types of videos. Mouth sounds, eating videos, and the like just give me a sort of auditory irritation. But I've noticed a lot more of them lately too, so it must work pretty well for others! Luckily there's no shortage of videos in any category, so the ones you don't like are easily avoidable :)
I don't care for ear eating, licking, or kissing sounds but it's easy enough to avoid watching those videos.
The only time I get annoyed is if the ASMRtist doesn't provide a complete description of the triggers in their video, and the unpleasant sounds come as a surprise.
Don't worry about what other people like.
I'm pretty sure he's allowed to have a discussion.
Why is this board so defensive? You can't bring up a discussion about something that you don't like without everyone acting like you're being an ass.
I can't have enough ear eating/licking.
Are you paying any of these "fav ASMRtists" for their time and effort? If so, stop paying those people. If not, you have no right to complain. Don't watch those videos. Find new favorites. Your opinion is a grain of sand in a very large sandbox. It's not always about you, man.
He's allowed to have a damned opinion.
I hate these sounds and they make me angry. And yet, I also get triggers. It's a very confusing feeling for me.
If you don't like it, request a change from your asmrtist or make a change happen yourself rather than just saying you're unhappy with the current climate
