What Smart-Card readers should I avoid?

• HID OmniKey 5421 is being phased-out. If you cannot find an OmniKey 5421, please use OmniKey 5422.
• HID OmniKey 3020 is being phased-out. If you cannot find an OmniKey 3020, please use OmniKey 3121.

Minimum Card-Reader Requirements

• Smart-Card Reader HID such as OmniKey, ACS Card Readers
• 1 USB Slot free, to connect the Smart-Card.

What kind of Smart-Card reader brands should I use?

• ACS (such as ACR1281U series)
• HID OmniKey (such as HID OmniKey 3021, HID OmniKey 5422)
• ACR122U/T/L requires registry and escape code configuration. See SmartCard Reader Settings.
• HID OmniKey 3121, 3021, 3020* are contact card-readers. It cannot read or write from contactless cards.

Please get a card-reader that supports both contact and contactless card-reader.

Where can I get good quality smart-card readers?

• Your local computer-shop or hardware store (under indoor-security section).
