What do you keep in yours? I do like to bring in small touches of nature, but as a general rule of thumb, I like to decorate according to the season, not a specific holiday. Maybe because it lasts longer that way. . . Maybe because I’m too lazy/busy to change things out very often. This is what I would consider my “Spring sofa table.” I traded out the huge pinecones in our basket for books. I brought in the weathered bird from our doorstep, and I clipped some branches in bloom from our yard. (I think the big green ball/float works for any season.) In the summer, I’ll probably bring out my giant piece of driftwood and switch things out a little again. Do you change out your accessories according to the season? Your forsythia is ahead of mine. I can’t wait to use the branches in my house, I love them! I like all the spring flowers indoors, and just brought in the first daffodils! Have a great week. xo Nancy Powellbrower.com I think it looks lovely! We make a few small tweaks in different seasons (and decorate for Christmas) but otherwise it is mostly the same. Little touches are all I find I really need — chunky throw blankets out in winter, more flowers in summer — but nothing major. I’ve been a reader for just a few weeks now and wanted to say how happy I am that I am following your blog. I just love it. I’m with you, no short term decorating for me either, maybe it’s laziness but I don’t get motivated to do it. I love to decorate for the different seasons. I put out all of my spring/Easter stuff a couple of weeks ago and I am enjoying it. It’s nice to change things up. Once Easter is over, I will take those decorations down but leave up a few things that incorporate spring. I love the pastel colors! I love to decorate for the seasons, but I do agree with you that life gets busy and sometimes I find it hard to getting around to short term decorating. I like to change things out occasionally and usually according to the season but I just can’t get into the Holiday decorating. Christmas is about it around here. I don’t have the time, energy or frankly the desire to keep switching up my mantel for Valentines Day, St. Patty’s Day, Easter,4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. And I hate hanging onto stuff, clutter, whatever. Thanks for a refreshing post that doesn’t include bunnies or birds nests. ;) I’m with you. I’m sure my kids would think it was fun but I’m just trying to get everyone fed and dressed at this point :) Ditto. Thanks for keeping it real. : ) I do the same thing…just a few subtle changes for a fresh change. Less is more, don’t you think? :) Love the big green float! Love forsythia branches. Just spied some in my neighborhood today. i too try to add the fresh elements from nature by season & skip some of the holiday-specific decorating. Have a fabulous week! I am just the same. I love to go all out for Christmas, but every holiday is a little too much for me. Definitely love to bring nature indoors. That is the best kind of decorating for the season in my opinion. Love the branches. xo Kristin So glad to hear I’m not the only one who doesn’t decorate for holidays. I rarely even decorate seasonally. The December holidays is the only exception, but even then I don’t go all out. I’ve just never been much of a celebratory person, I guess! I do change things up decor-wise on a regular basis, but that’s just for fun! …Was just dusting (a rare occurrence) when I noticed all the little things my kids leave around the house – and I left them there! Love the Dora lipgloss! :) I’m with you on the seasonal decorating. In spring I like to change out pillow covers and lighten the accessories a bit or add a pop of color, but I don’t do much for holidays except Christmas. First of all I don’t have the room to store all that stuff, and secondly, I rarely find the time to put it out and pack it away. Love your branch blossoms! I’m not into holiday decorating either. I prefer small changes as well-candles, flowers, etc. I’ve been scaling back a little more each year at Christmas, too. When our girls were little I would bring out more for each holiday, but now I just change things up for the seasons with Christmas being the exception since we start celebrating just after Thanksgiving and take things down just after the New Year. OMGolly….MC found our green floating fishing ball in the Pacific Ocean in 1964. I have it out all the time. When the kids were young they “rolled” all over the house on it! It’s a 14″ diameter! I’m with you on your season/holiday decor theory ! The babies have just discovered ours and keep pulling up on it. . . Probably not good. My kids are small, 6 and 3, so for them I do decorate for each holiday. My daughter loves to do crafts so I try to tie that into our decorations. It does get to be a little much – Valentines is over hurry and get out the St. Patrick’s day stuff – but I figure until they get bigger it is fun for us to do. My mom was never into changing the decor except at Christmas and even then it was just the tree and stockings. I always liked going to people’s houses that were a bit more festive so I think that is why I might go a bit overboard for my kids :) I recently found your blog and love it! I think it’s smart to decorate “seasonally” too. It certainly lasts longer. But, having said that, I did decorate for St. Patrick’s Day this year for the first time. :) But my kids are in college and high school, so I have a little more time on my hands than you. :) Çok harika görüntüler bunlar..Bahar çiçekleri, her şey çok hoş… I am so jealous- your forsythia is way ahead of mine. To be honest, I find holiday decorating a bit tacky. All these wreathes, and knick knacks people festoon their homes with just kind of wear me out! Ha! I do switch things around seasonally however, Looks beautiful, Emily! I’m with you on decorating more long term rather than changing decor with every holiday. Thanks for sharing your ideas! Love it! And glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t change my decor for Valentine’s Day or St. Patty’s Day … just for the seasons. I’m definitely a seasonal decorator with mainly natural elements. I like to have ferns, flowers, driftwood, leaves…whatever is available for the season. The kids bring enough artwork home from their school parties that I stick up somewhere for the specific holiday. Of course for Christmas, we do it up! Oh how I love forsythia branches, my mom always put abundance of them in vases when we were little. I always think of Spring and good times when I see them :) I can’t wait for spring! In Chicago the snow is coming down as we speak but I know Spring will be here before we know it :) Have a great week! Oh how I love forsythia branches, my mom always put abundance of them in vases when we were little. I always think of Spring and good times when I see them :) I can’t wait for spring! In Chicago the snow is coming down as we speak but I know Spring will be here before we know it :) Have a great week! Count me among the forsythia lovers. They sing spring! I swap out accessories according to my mood or when I have a new item I want to display. Especially the latter. Sometimes a switcheroo is needed to showcase something new in the way I want it to be highlighted. I tell myself I want to be more of a seasonal switcher, complete with fall/winter and spring/summer drapes, but I haven’t put any effort into it. Your home is so beautiful! I too just add simple touches to bring the outdoors in. The azaleas are blooming here and the color is breathtaking! I’d love it if you can stop by our new website and blog. i always love when forsythia blooms. Just wish it would bloom forever – could never tire of looking at it. I am a little mad at myself because I meant to plant some in our yard last year and forgot!! Never too late , huh? I thought I was the only person who does nt decorate for the holidays. So glad to know I am not alone. Love the bright yellow forsythia flower branches. Any chance you remember where you bought your table lamp? I have been looking for one exactly liked that. Thanks. Mary–I found it at Habitat ReStore and changed out the (really bad) shade :) Preeeety! :-) I change for seasons mainly spring/summer, fall/winter. I find it’ easier and less expensive. Christmas I decor for specifically :-) The branches of beautiful and we all definitely need signs of spring right about now! Susan simplymodernhome.com Emily-love your blog and have read since I saw you in Better Homes and Gardens:) I have been wavering on a living room rug forever and just read your post about your jute/chenille rug from pb and was sold! This comment has been removed by a blog administrator. I have a table lamp almost identical to yours!! I like to change out some of my accessories for the seasons – but don’t like to get to themey! Love your sofa table and your forsythia branches! This comment has been removed by a blog administrator. i have actually started to do the opposite, a little more holiday-ish decorating. i have no idea why because i used to be the exact opposite. my decor never really changed even for the season, Christmas the exception but even then it was a bow around a vase, a wreath on the door, stockings and tree. mainly i’ve been doing the mantel with just a few touches here and there. my candy dish always has seasonal candy tho, lol! Years ago I decided that I’m not a preschool in decorating for every possible holiday. Christmas is where I go all out on decorating, that’s it. Ironically you have forsythia’s and I woke up this morning to snow. Will spring ever get here? I can only hope that spring lasts longer than the usual 20 minutes. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator. I am jealous that your forsythia is blooming already. I am like you and just decorate seasonally. It takes me too long to figure out what I want to do/how I want it to look to change my decor more often than that. I am the same way! I don’t decorate for holidays and so forth (except for Christmas)…just too much stuff to have to get out and then put away:) Take care, Caroline Your email address will not be published.
