EEC Posts 81% Revenue Growth, Expands Regionally
Diana Leul and Hundaol BegnaThe Ethiopian Engineering Corporation (EEC) reported ETB 8.9 billion in revenue for 2017 EFY, an 81% jump from last year and 117% of its annual plan. The results came from 111 design projects, 272 supervision and contract work, and 53 construction projects.
This performance reflects Ethiopia’s wider strategy to strengthen state-owned enterprises as revenue generators and exporters of technical expertise. Backed by Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), EEC’s diversification signals a shift from reliance on domestic contracts to building foreign exchange earnings and regional competitiveness.
The results underscore EEC’s role as a key driver of Ethiopia’s infrastructure and economic development, with performance highlighting its focus on innovation, leadership, and delivery. Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), reviewing the results during its annual performance dialogue, urged EEC to prioritize long-term investments, diversify financing sources, and expand into foreign markets.
Looking ahead, officials emphasized that sustaining growth will require scaling licensed projects, widening international reach, and broadening customer bases.
