Educational System in Ukraine
The educational system in Ukraine is the following: the school education is divided into Primary (1-4 grades), Secondary (5-9 grades) and High (10-11 grades). Students can leave school after 9th grade and enter the college or continue to study and enter the university after 11th grade. The Bachelor’s Degree programme lasts 4 years, Master’s Degree – 1.5-2 years.
The autumn semester in Ukraine traditionally begins in the first days of September and lasts until the end of December, with examination session after holidays – during January. The spring semester starts in February and lasts until the end of May, session – during June.
Educational System in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute
There are 175 universities and 66 academies in the country. Among them, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute is Top 1st in the national ratings. Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was one of the first Universities in Ukraine that adopted the ECTS grading system. At the same time, our University uses the traditional grading system.
The schedule of classes is very different from one university to another. Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute has adopted one common timetable for all faculties and institutes. Usually, there are 2-4 classes per day. Classes are divided into practical lessons, lectures and laboratory work. At the end of the course, there are several types of control, such as oral test, written test, home control work, or project. Every lesson in Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute lasts 95 minutes (45 minutes of work - 5-minutes break - 45 minutes of work). All the breaks between courses last 20 minutes. The timetable is made so, that students mostly have courses in the same building one day, but it can occur that student should go to another place. The two-weeks system has been adopted in the educational process. The schedule for the first week is usually different from that of the second week.
