It is a myth that if you have already been exposed to latex condoms without a problem that you won’t develop an allergy to latex. Even if you have used condoms made from latex in the past there is a possibility that you can develop a new latex allergy. Symptoms of a latex allergy are similar to standard symptoms you would experience with an allergic reaction. The symptoms of a latex allergy can cause some discomfort as they may occur around the genital area where there was contact with the condom. Symptoms of a latex allergy include:
A latex allergy does not mean you shouldn’t use condoms, you just need to use condoms that are suitable for you. Durex Latex Free are made from polyisoprene which is a technically advanced non-latex material which is safe for the body. The condoms are teat ended and lubricated for easy application. The nominal width of this condom is 56mm which will fit most men, even those with a larger than average girth. Every Durex condom is 100% electronically tested with 5 more quality tests carried out on every batch.
Condoms are only effective if they are applied correctly. Before applying any condom, ensure you check the use-by date. If the condom is out of date, do not use it as it will not be as effective. When opening the packet, take care not to rip the condom. This can be achieved by gently pushing the condom to one side of the wrapper and tear from the corner on the opposite side. Avoid handling the condom with sharp nails and jewellery. Check the condom is the correct way round before applying - the teat end should be pointing up. If you have accidentally applied the condom the wrong way round, remove it, dispose of it and use another one. A man’s precum contains semen, so if it comes into contact with a condom before use this can eliminate the effectiveness of the condom. Ensuring the penis is fully erect, pinch the teat between your thumb and finger, to prevent trapped air which can cause the condom to split. Now roll the condom down to the base of the penis whilst smoothing out any air bubbles that may appear around the shaft.
Remember that no contraception can provide 100% protection against pregnancy so it is recommended that you also use some form of birth control, such as the coil or the pill. Always change your condom when you change to another form of sex, e.g. swapping from vaginal sex to anal sex.
Never reuse a condom after use. Remember to change the condom when changing to a different form of sex, e.g. a separate condom for vaginal sex when swapping from anal sex.

If used properly, Durex synthetic polyisoprene condoms will help reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancies and catching or spreading HIV infection (AIDS) and many other sexually transmitted diseases. No method of contraception can provide 100% protection against pregnancy or HIV (AIDS) and STDs. Non-vaginal use of condoms can increase the potential of them slipping or being damaged, please consult your physician for advice. During intimate contact, lesions and various body fluids can transmit STDs. Therefore, use a new condom before any such contact occurs. Store in a cool, dry place (below 100F) and avoid exposure to direct sunlight. Avoid excess heat.
Do not use oil-based lubricants, such as petroleum jelly, vegetable/mineral oils or cold cream, since these may damage the latex condom. Use each condom only once.
