Duke Edges Out Mount St. Mary’s in Hard-Fought Season Opener

Durham, NC – In a thrilling season opener at Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Duke Blue Devils narrowly defeated the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers with a final score of 85-71. The game, played in front of a packed crowd, showcased Duke’s resilience and Mount St. Mary’s determination to challenge one of college basketball’s most storied programs.

From the opening tip, the Mountaineers came out with energy, surprising the Blue Devils with their aggressive defense and sharp three-point shooting. Mount St. Mary’s head coach Dan Engelstad praised his team’s effort. 'We came in with a game plan, and our guys executed it well. Duke is a talented team, but I’m proud of how we competed for 40 minutes,' he said.

Duke’s head coach Jon Scheyer acknowledged the challenge posed by the Mountaineers. 'Mount St. Mary’s is a well-coached team, and they made us work for every basket. It’s a great early test for us as we continue to grow and build chemistry,' Scheyer said.
