Duke Basketball Lands Top Recruit for Title Run

Duke Basketball Secures Top Recruit, Eyes Championship Run in 2024-25 Season

Durham, NC – April 6, 2025 – The Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team is making headlines once again, this time by landing one of the nation’s top high school prospects as they prepare for what could be a championship-contending season.

Five-star forward AJ Dybantsa, the No. 1 ranked player in the Class of 2025, announced his commitment to Duke on Friday, choosing the Blue Devils over Kentucky, USC, and the G League Ignite. The 6’9' phenom is expected to make an immediate impact under head coach Jon Scheyer, who continues to build on Duke’s legacy of elite recruiting.

'Duke is where I want to be,' Dybantsa said in an exclusive interview with ESPN. 'The culture, the coaching staff, and the brotherhood here are unmatched. I’m ready to compete for a national title.'

Dybantsa joins a loaded roster that includes returning sophomore guard Caleb Foster and highly touted freshman Cooper Flagg, last year’s No. 1 recruit. With a mix of veteran leadership and young talent, analysts are already projecting Duke as a preseason top-three team.

The Blue Devils are coming off a strong 2023-24 campaign, reaching the Elite Eight before falling to eventual champion UConn. However, with Dybantsa’s addition and key players developing, expectations are soaring in Durham.

'This team has all the pieces,' said ESPN analyst Jay Bilas. 'If they stay healthy and mesh well, they’ll be the team to beat.'

Duke opens its season in November with a marquee matchup against Kansas in the Champions Classic, a game that could set the tone for another thrilling year of Blue Devils basketball.
