You might be surprised by all the reasons that someone would drink their own or another person's urine. But is it safe? That depends on a few factors.

Ingesting urine, or urophagia, is a practice dating back to ancient man. Reasons for drinking urine include attempted survival, ceremonial purposes, sexual practices, and alternative medicine. Medical reasons include teeth whitening, fertility treatments, hormone therapy, and prevention or treatment of cancer, arthritis, allergies, and other diseases.

Drinking a small amount of urine , particularly your own, isn't likely to be significantly hazardous to your health, but there are risks associated with drinking urine:

Many people, including doctors and nurses, erroneously believe urine is sterile. This is because the "negative" test for bacteria in urine, developed by Edward Cass in the 1950s , sets a limit of allowable bacteria to help health professionals distinguish between normal flora and an infection.

The test involves capturing midstream urine, or urine collected after a small amount of urination has flushed the urethra. A negative bacteria test for urine is any number less than 100,000 colony-forming bacteria per milliliter of urine, which is far from sterile. While all urine contains bacteria, the number and types of bacteria are different in a person with an infection.

One argument against drinking urine is that bacteria from a healthy person may be fine in the urinary tract, yet infectious if ingested.

So, if you were dying of thirst, would it be OK to drink your own urine? Unfortunately, the answer is no.

Drinking any liquid, including urine, may relieve the immediate sensation of thirst, but the sodium and other minerals in urine would make you more dehydrated, in much the same way as drinking sea water would. Some people drank their own urine in extreme survival situations and lived to tell the tale, but even the U.S. military advises personnel against it.

In a survival situation , you can use your urine as a source of water by distilling it . The same technique can be used to purify water from perspiration or sea water .

A lack of safe drinking water is a common result of disasters, natural or otherwise. But some people argue that even in such situations we have plenty to drink, as long as we don’t turn up our noses at it. Squeamishness aside, is it safe to drink your urine?

With several caveats and under certain conditions, yes, it is safe to drink your urine.

Drinking urine when no other liquid is available—particularly fresh, safe drinking water—may be a matter of survival. Urine is largely comprised of water that has been filtered through the body as part of the body’s ongoing process of flushing out waste products. Although few people like the idea of drinking urine, fewer would prefer to suffer the ultimate consequences of
dehydration
.

But what about the use of urine as a medicinal substance in well-hydrated individuals?
Many ancient medical and cultural practices in places such as Egypt, China, India, and the Aztec empire, consider drinking urine—one’s own or someone else’s—as a treatment or cure for a variety of ailments.

Even today there are number of alternative medical practices based in the teachings of
Ayurveda
that allow for urine consumption. Ayurveda, the ancient holistic healing system of India, is grounded in a spiritual view of life. Its practitioners have advocated urine therapy as a treatment for
asthma
,
arthritis
,
allergies
,
acne
,
cancer
,
indigestion
,
migraines
, wrinkles, and a host of other conditions.

Although no medical evidence supports urine as an effective treatment for any of these (or other) illnesses, scientific studies have shown that some components of urine have medicinal properties. Most notably, urea (which, next to water, is the primary component of urine) possesses antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral characteristics. And, it should be noted that research is underway to investigate the potential of other urinary substances to treat
infertility
and specific forms of cancer.

While urine’s purported healing properties have yet to be confirmed by rigorous research, drinking
small amounts
of your own urine is unlikely to produce serious harm if, for some reason, you are so inclined.

Although sipping the occasional urine sample may not be immediately harmful, it should not be forgotten that urine can contain harmful substances in those who have taken drugs—legal or otherwise—or have been exposed to chemical residues in the environment.
Also, if a person were to drink his own urine as a substitute for fresh drinking water, the proportion of water content would rapidly decrease as the proportion of harmful waste products increased.
Urine therapy advocates who tout urine’s healing properties point to the fact that urine contains vitamins, hormones, proteins, and other constituents generally accepted as beneficial. However, detractors point out that the body’s process of elimination is more than merely efficient, ridding itself of what it can’t store. Rather, the kidneys diligently retain what is useful and dispose of everything else deemed dispensable.

Even urine therapy advocates warn of the dangers of excessive urine consumption. During a worldwide conference of urine therapy practitioners, the Chinese Association of Urine Therapy warned that drinking urine has negative side effects, including
diarrhea
, fatigue, fever, and muscle soreness; and these symptoms increase with the amount of urine ingested.

Because urine is primarily water, drinking it in small amounts is probably harmless unless you’ve been exposed to medications or environmental toxins that your body is desperately trying to eliminate. When faced with life-threatening dehydration, drinking urine may make some sense, since the temporary benefits are likely to outweigh the risks. However, this last ditch effort will be short-lived, since the kidneys stop making urine as the dehydration worsens.

I don't enjoy intercourse at all! ive been married for 16 years and have done all kinds of things to make intercourse fun. But since it hurts to have intercourse my husband has went a total different way, He wants me to drink his pee. Is this normal or even healthy for me? I call it disgustiong because I feel like I drinking his waste. I just let it trinkle on my tongue but what does go down my throat it burns like acid. Please help me to know if this is healthy or not. :'(

Frannie, I wish I could say with certainty whether urine is "unhealthy"...
actually some claim it can cure numerous diseases... but nothing is scientifically proven. Actually there is also urine therapy available, if you would liek search it online....
Actually The American Cancer Society mentions that drinking or injecting urine or applying it directly to the skin is safe and not linked to any harmful side effects, but as already said the safety of these practices has not been established by scientific studies. Also, there have been reports of nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, and diarrhea after drinking one’s own urine, especially during the first few days.
Anyway, urine is consisted 95% of water with Urea as its main component, and the rest are minerals, salts, hormones, enzymes.

What I am trying to say, if you do not enjoy doing it, please don't do it. Sexual relationship should be a mutual and most enjoyable for both parties involved.

I have drunk female urine, and it has hardly any taste, I am Male and I drank a mistresses urine.

I drink my husband's and now I've become obsessed with drinking from him, especially directly. But my husband drinks plenty of water; it tastes like lukewarm water with a hint of saltiness. He already knows I don't want it if he's been holding a long time or not drinking water... then it's really disgusting might as well be turpentine.

Any chance I can, sometimes multiple times a day, other times maybe once a day. If we're really busy then sometimes I'll miss a few days in between my servings. The amount is anywhere between 12 and 16 oz per load. Sometimes I have a cup or glass nearby and when he comes to deliver, he doesn't say anything, he treats me like his toilet when it's time. He walks in to the room or my office, pulls it out and either grabs my hair and forces my head down to him, just puts himself in my mouth and releases his stream or he fills my glass. Either way when he's done. He brushes himself along my cheeks (probably drying it).

Places him back in his pants / shorts and walks out. Never saying a word. If I'm asleep and he needs to release, he still kinda puts it in my mouth and only says "drink it". He knows I'm ready to drink when my tongue eagerly pushes against the hole, anticipating receiving his delicious water packed, vitamins and minerals. I even have a glass with my food. He fills my glass and I'm washing my breakfast and dinner down with my husband's piss. Sometimes I even warm it slightly by boiling water. Then I set the glass n the boiling hot water a few seconds... Omg it's sooooo good! But I will only drink it from a glass or bottle if he fills it in front of me. Something about seeing it fill the glass from the tap turns me on so much! As soon as it touches my tongue, my p*ssy turns into a waterfall! I get sooooo wet!!!
