Personally my opinion regarding drilling is, if I'm spending more cost in labor trying to pick the lock than the cost of a new lock, and if I can replace it with the same or better lock and set it up to your existing key if applicable, drill away. 30 minutes of picking like you're talking about costs more than a new doorknob.
