Determine your body shape so you can accentuate your best features. Every woman looks different, and identifying your unique qualities will help you figure out how to dress to enhance your natural beauty. Look at yourself in the mirror to see which shape your body resembles. The most common shape for trans women is an inverted triangle. [1]

An inverted triangle body shape means your shoulders are wider than your hips. You can balance your shoulders by adding volume on your lower body. Great options for this include A-line dresses, patterned pants or skirts, and boot-cut jeans.

Wear a bra that feels comfortable and gives you shape. It’s okay to skip wearing a bra if you prefer an androgynous look or just don’t like them. If you have breasts or want more curves up top, a great bra can help you achieve your best look. Get a bra fitting at a lingerie store for the best fit. If you're too nervous to get a fitting, you can measure yourself for a bra at home using fabric measuring tape. [2]

To measure yourself, start by wrapping the measuring tape around your body under your breasts where the bra’s band will go. This is your band size. Then, measure the widest part of your breasts. Subtract your band measurement from your breast measurement to find your cup size. Generally, a difference that’s less than 1 in (2.5 cm) is an AA cup, a 1 in (2.5 cm) difference is an A cup, a 2 in (5.1 cm) difference is a B cup, and so on.
Try a padded bra or add your own padding if you’d like the look of bigger breasts.

Play up your best features so your natural beauty shows. The secret to looking gorgeous is highlighting your unique beauty. Stand in front of a mirror and pick out what you love most about your body. For instance, maybe you have long, lovely legs or a clearly defined waist. Choose outfits that accentuate your favorite features so everyone’s eyes are drawn to them. [3]

Use dark colors to minimize areas you want to hide and wear light colors to draw attention.
Let’s say you have great legs. You might wear shorts, tailored pants, or short skirts and dresses. If you like your waistline, show it off by belting your clothes, by wearing a cropped jacket over a longer top, or by wearing a cropped top. If your arms are lovely, go sleeveless when the weather permits.

Pick outfits that make you feel your best. Your clothes should make you feel happy! When you feel attractive, it boosts your confidence, which makes other people see you as attractive. Play around with different looks to see what makes you feel awesome. Here are some ideas to get you started: [4]

For an easy casual look, try a long tunic shirt over leggings, a cute maxi dress, or jeans and a cute T-shirt.
If you want something a little dressier, you might wear an A-line dress with a fun pair of tights or dark-wash bootcut jeans, a tunic shirt, and a cute scarf.

Take a cue from how other girls or women your age dress. You can wear anything you like, so don’t worry too much about fashion “rules.” At the same time, you might be struggling to figure out where to start when it comes to building your wardrobe. Check out what your peers are wearing to get style inspiration. Consider which types of outfits you love, as well as what doesn’t fit your personal style. [5]

Don’t worry too much about what other people are wearing. Focus on what makes you feel your best.

Accessorize your outfits for a style boost. You can choose to skip accessories if you prefer, but they’re a fun way to express your sense of style. At first, try adding 1 or 2 accessories to your look. As you develop your style, you might try adding more. [6]

For instance, you might wear dangly earrings to draw attention to your beautiful face or bangle bracelets to show off your wrists.
Necklaces may not be the best option if you’re trying to hide your Adam’s apple. Try on a necklace before you buy it to see how it looks on you.
Carry a handbag or purse if you like.

Remove your body hair only if it’s what you want. A lot of girls and women shave their underarms and legs, but that doesn’t mean you have to do so. If you prefer a smooth look, apply a shaving cream or shave bar to your skin. Then, carefully shave the area until it’s smooth. For best results, apply moisturizer to your legs after you shave for softer, smoother skin. [7]

If your hair is very long, you might trim it with a pair of scissors first. You can use regular scissors or manicure scissors. Be careful that you don’t cut your skin.

Don’t feel pressured to conform to other people’s ideals. You might feel like you need to be ultra femme as a trans girl, but that’s totally not true. You can be any type of girl you want, and it’s okay to wear whatever is most comfortable to you. There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to be a girl, so listen to your inner voice when you’re deciding what’s perfect for you.
For instance, there’s no reason you can't wear jeans and T-shirts if that’s your style. Lots of girls don’t wear dresses, so don’t feel like you have to wear them.

Wear your hair down or in a ponytail for a simple, easy option. You don’t need an elaborate hairstyle to look great. Leave your hair down for a cute, everyday style. If you feel like you’re having a bad hair day, tie your hair back in a ponytail. [8]

If your hair is chin length or longer, you might try curling it with a curling iron.
You can have any hair length as a girl, so don’t feel like short hair is masculine.

Experiment with braids and up-dos if you like fixing your hair. You might want to try something fun with your hair. Try braiding it or putting it up in a bun. Play with your hair to see what looks best on you. Watch YouTube tutorials for tips and tricks to make your styles work. [9]

Practice a new hairstyle in the evening or on the weekend so you have plenty of time. It might take a little practice to get it right.

Accessorize your hair with clips and headbands if you like. While you don’t need hair accessories, they can be a fun addition to your look. Put on a headband to dress up your style and keep your hair out of your face. Use cute hair clips to hold your hair back or to just add a girly touch.
If you’re self-conscious about having short hair, accessories can help you play up your feminine side. However, remember that lots of girls have short hair and you look great with or without accessories.

Visit a hair stylist if you want a new look. Now that you’re fully expressing your gender, you might want a whole new hairstyle. Make an appointment with a stylist to get your perfect style. If you know what kind of cut you want, bring photos for your stylist to use as inspiration. If you’re not sure what cut will flatter your features, ask your stylist for advice. [10]

Play around with make up to find looks you love. Makeup is a great way to express your personality and sense of style. You might not realize this, but applying makeup is a skill that often takes practice. Fortunately, it’s fun and easy to try out different makeup looks. For more guidance, watch YouTube tutorials or read articles from style magazines. [11]

Start with the basics, like applying foundation, concealer, blush, and eyeshadow. Then, try fun looks like a smokey eye or a bold lip.
There are a ton of different makeup products out there, but you don’t need to use all of them. Try not to get overwhelmed by your options. Instead, try to recreate looks that you like and go from there.

Choose a matte foundation because it’ll create a more even texture. As a trans girl, it’s normal for you to have different skin textures in parts of your face because of hormonal acne or facial hair. Don’t worry too much about these issues because they likely won’t be noticeable under your makeup. Go with a matte foundation because it’ll help cover these areas and should stay on all day. [12]

Look for a long-wear formula that’s less likely to melt off.

Cover dark areas with a concealer that has peach or orange undertones. You likely have dark circles under your eyes, which is pretty common. Additionally, you may have some shadowing over your upper lip or around the lower part of your face if you’ve ever grown facial hair. These areas are fairly easy to cover, so don’t worry too much about them. Use your fingertip to dab your concealer under your eyes and over areas you used to have facial hair before you apply foundation. [13]

Let the concealer dry for about a minute before you put on your foundation.

Shape your eyebrows so they frame your eyes. Great eyebrows can change the entire look of your face. Pluck excess hairs to create the eyebrow shape you desire. As another option, get your eyebrows professionally shaped by a makeup artist or brow technician. [14]

You can find YouTube videos to help you learn how to shape your brows easily.
If you like playing with makeup, you might try filling in your brows or reshaping them.
