The Neighbors season 3 official trailer
..was not sure about watching.. very pleasantly surprised..
Nieuwe buren.. (New Neighbors).. or The Swingers (poor choice).. through two seasons this show retains interest. The cast is solid, with many outstanding performances, and the writing is well up to their abilities. The only negative comment would be that the subtitles in season two are not al all easy to read and keep up with. Outside of that minor flaw, it is a fine overall production. The third season just aired in March, and it's hoped it will soon be made available for viewing. It's not divulging much to say that quite a few of the characters do not make it through the first and second seasons (killing comes frequently) , as cast credits indicates whose making it through all thirty of the episodes to date. An interesting premise, with much of the allure generated by the lead actor.. she is no less than outstanding. It will be most interesting to see if they are able to sustain it all through another season(s). I'd say don't pass it up.

Expecting their first child, a young couple - Peter and Eva - move to the suburbs to build a new future. But tragedy strikes and the prematurely born baby dies. They find support in their new neighbors. A close bond develops wherein not only joy and sorrow is shared, but eventually also beds. The lives of the two couples become intertwined and boundaries are pushed, until there is no way back.

Music journalist Peter and his pregnant girlfriend Eva swap their miniscule apartment in the city for a spacious and sunny newly-built house in the suburbs. They meet their friendly new neighbors; narcotics detective Steef and sports instructor Rebecca. But before moving in, tragedy strikes and the prematurely born baby dies.
Eva and Peter bury their baby girl and struggle to cope with this terrible loss. They do find comfort with their new neighbors Rebecca and Steef, their door is always open. One night when Peter spots a couple arriving at their house, who behave very intimate, he does wonder what kind of people his new neighbors actually are.
Peter and Eva try to get their life back on track. They enjoy a nice day at the beach with their new friends Rebecca and Steef, but are in for a surprise. The new neighbors casually tell them about their hobby: swinging.
A small-time criminal crashes Rebecca and Steef’s car in the middle of the night, because Steef is more and more entangled in the criminal world. Peter wants to look into adoption, but Eva really wants to have a child of her own, even though their chances of conceiving are slim.
The two couples embark on a weekend away and the sexual tension grows. Steef and Rebecca's libertine attitude towards sex, keeps Peter busy. Steef tells him that everything is possible, but nothing has to be. The men are unaware that the women are already plotting something with a different agenda.
Eva is thrilled to discover she's pregnant and to safeguard her secret she must persuade Peter to sleep with her. For now she can only share her happiness with Rebecca, but Rebecca has other things on her mind. She discovers Steef has been keeping financial facts from her.
Peter has become distrustful and even a bit paranoid; did Eva take a pregnancy test? Is she pregnant? Rebecca follows Steef and discovered he has another child. A child with serious health problems. When she confronts him: Steef confesses that he’s being blackmailed, Rebecca swallows her pride and asks their other neighbors - Peter and Lilly - for a loan.
After secretly testing his fertility, Peter is busy with sorting out Eva's pregnancy. He goes through her things and is stunned to learn that the actual father of Eva's child is to be found across the street. In the meantime, Rebecca makes a strange discovery; she finds Steef’s motorbike gear in Lilly and Jasper’s garage.
Steef has managed to keep all the plates spinning for years, but now everything comes tumbling down. Also his relationship, Rebecca can’t forgive his years of deception. Peter knows Eva lied to him and demands she ends the pregnancy. Rebecca confronts Lilly and Jasper.
Steef is suspended, pending an investigation on his criminal activities. When Eva flees the neighborhood after Peter’s ultimatum, he reaches breaking point. Rebecca and Steef try to intervene and stop terrible things from happening, but the past is rapidly catching up with them.

LOVE IT, BUT!!!!! ALL THE REVIEWS SEEM TO BE FROM OTHER SERIES FROM ABC!!! THIS IS NOT THAT ONE. THE TRANSLATION OF THE TITLE IS "NEW NEIGHBORS", IS ACTUALY MUCH BETTER THAN "THE NEIGHBORS". TO TURN CAPTIONS ON, GO TO THE SETTINGS IN THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SCREEN. OH! THERE IS A SEASON 2 OF THIS SERIES ALREADY AIRED AND THEY ARE MAKING A SEASON 3 :) SERIOUSLY: NOT COOL TO PASS THE REVIEWS FROM OTHER SERIES...

I was watching Season1 and was in the last episode & all of a sudden "this is not currently available to watch". What the heck? I now cannot finish the 1st season & watch the 2nd season. I was justvgetting into it - it was a bit slow starting off but understandable because they have to break down each character & their back stories. Please get this back on Amazon so I can finish!!

To sum it up, most people cause their own problems in this show, from their 30s to their 50s or 60s. The 2 boys that were the son of the police, were more mature, than any of the adults. Yet, without drama, would there be any film, plays, etc.? Good acting....attractive men in it at least. And as a tidbit: the 2 couples were actually married in real life. One divorced now. 2 of the actors had similar last name, only an extra "s" at the end, so I thought they were married to the opposite person in real life...but nope, the couples portraying married couples were the real life spouse.

I was intrigued by the first episode's plot and characters. For some reason, I continued and watched all 10 episodes of Season 1. Because you know right upfront that a horrendous murder takes place, something made me stick with it to find out "who done it." While watching to see who was the mass murderer, I began to formulate all the things i believe were bad with Series 1. Does no one in the Netherlands know about artificial insemination or IVF? The premise that the only way to get pregnant is through intercourse is totally absurd! Also, strange was that whenever the next door neighbor stalked/spied on the swinging couple...the background music made it look like he was doing something comical! He was a pervert/criminal and should not have have been portrayed as a "quirky" guy. I thought the acting by the 4 main characters was excellent, although Peter's personality was a turnoff for me. Another incredible plot line involved the son of Steve, who probably had cerebral palsy or some other debilitating condition. He was continually called "spastic"...not great. Also...Peter kept stressing that it was hereditary and he didn't want any more children...but he neglected to tell his wife why he was afraid of having his own children. Ridiculous. Also...are all these conditions passed down genetically? I don't think so. Anyway...those are the things I thought were totally absurd about the Series, however, as mentioned earlier...I still watched all 10 episodes...so that says something about the show!!!

I really enjoyed both seasons of Niewe Buren! It's completely entertaining and I like the manipulative characters. I read there are two more seasons available in Europe - Amazon please bring them to us here in the USA. I recommend this series as pure escapist binging pleasure!

It started out great then devolved into ridiculousness. Also, for the love of God, give Peter a wardrobe change. He wears the same Wilco T-shirt in every scene. I actually screamed, when I saw in The Neighbors 2, which takes place two years later, he was still wearing the Wilco. Is there some symbolism I'm missing or did he get the short end of the stick on the wardrobe budget? I didn't watch the second season of that T-shirt (and, it started out boring and ridiculous.)
