I'm hoping this post does not turn into a bloodbath in the comments. But let's do it.
The community has produced a few mods that change the sexuality of the changes within the DA franchise. One of the more popular one is the Complete Bi Overhaul mods and I think it gives players a lot more choices when it comes to romances because it was so limited back then. Yet to some it erases an important part of their character. It doesn't fit. That I can understand as well. For example, the Dorian sexuality mod that gives female Inquisitors the option to romance him even though his entire personal arc is facing what his father did to him and learning to be vulnerable with the man he loves.
Then it comes to the mods for Alistair and Morrigan. Those mods are more openly accepted into the community. Is it because Alistair never really states that he's straight? You don't have the option to flirt with either of them as the same-sex so it's mostly assumed that they are straight.
But are these mods morally right? Or are these mods unnecessary?

I'd say these mods should bother you about as much as DA fanfiction, because that's pretty much what they are.

There are exactly three characters in the franchise who explicitly reject a romance if the player character is the wrong gender: Dorian, Sera, and Cassandra. I tend to be pretty opposed to sexuality changing on those three because of that fact.
In general, I don't see the need to use sexuality mods in DA. It's not like other franchises where there are few to no LGBT options - though it's certainly gotten better since DAO. DAI especially was great in that every Inquisitor had four options: two women and two men. (I know that Cullen and Solas were added in later for elven females, and Cullen also for human female, but I'm talking about the original six) It's still possible you'll want to romance someone else, but it's easy enough to roll up a new character - and it's not like there are no choices for a given sexuality. Instead, there are several, no matter what.
In DAO, you have three options: one male, one female, and one story-depending. I'd have liked to have more, but it's at least not nothing depending on sexuality, and it's the first set of the series - and really good for rep given when it was made.
I guess the bottom line is that I have a significant problem with mods that affect characters who explicitly state sexuality, and tend to not see the need for mods in general, but it's really a 'play your own game' attitude. I STRONGLY object to the 'I fixed X' attitudes I see in certain places, because I don't believe the modders fixed the character, they changed someone else's character. 'Fixed' gives a moral 'rightness' to it all that I find iffy and unnecessary.
Cullen also explicitly rejects advances from a male Inquisitor.
In DAO you have four options. Alistair (straight), Morrigan (straight), Zevran (bi) and Leliana (bi).

I think if you have a problem with sexuality mods, you should also probably have a problem with mods that change other components of a companion's character. For example, mods that make Wynne look like a young woman, when a major part of her character is that she's an older woman. I'm a bi trans man, and I've noticed there's always way less LGBT+ options for romance than straight options, so I don't think there's an issue with modding a game to make it more accessible for queer players.
I personally do not and have never used these mods. I like the characters the way they were made. But I start from the premise that each one does what he wants in his own game and the others have nothing to do with it.
PS: I'm coming to the conclusion that the DA fandom, specifically, has a lot of problems regarding the sexuality of the characters. I don't know if this is a reflection of some frustration in life or something else, but in general there is a lot of problematization (several of them meaningless) about this part of the characters.
It's just for fun. I don't care. If it's for fantasy of it, I see no harm in it. Long as you don't delude yourself into thinking it's canon.
What irritates me is when people insist that Cassandra is canonically gay. I saw a post once saying "She's gay. She just respects the female Inquisitor too much to be with her." What so she doesn't respect a Male Inquisitor? It's so frustrating. To this day I wish I could have romanced Sera with my Male Inquisitor but I'm not gonna bs by saying "She's straight she just doesn't go with you because of this and that" it's just frustrating man.
Now rant aside let people have fun with their mods, it's not hurting anyone. XD
Part of me thinks the "gay Cass" posts are a little bit influenced by the whole "calling things gay when you're actually bi" thing
What personally annoys me is people insisting Cassandra should be gay romance option, and it's offensive that she isn't, because she's masculine. It is like stereotyping the character in a very bad way.
I would have liked her romance still, but not because she's masculine. It's because she's a romantic and like binge reading books. I found that very endearing. You're right however. Her pursue for the fairytale love is part of her character, so it's wrong to mod that.
That's an extremely valid point- and I think it's why they had Aveline marry a man. They were deliberately subverting the trope of the butch "manly" lesbian. But I also know a lot of queer women who feel like Aveline AND Cass right after the other feels like a bit of a slap in the face, or feel like the games are deliberately, actively going out of their way to exclude butch lesbians. (They're also the biggest fans I know of the bi Cass mods.)
I don't think it's fair to raise a stink/leave nasty comments/hate on the mods. If you don't like it, don't interact with them. They are there to make someone's personal playthrough of DA games more enjoyable and no one has the right to take away how you choose to enjoy fictional characters in a video game.

You make a good point OP. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I think that we're so caught up in our own opinions we forget about the other side but the DA series has a lot of mods to cater your experiences. But it is your experience!
They are mods so you have to actively seek them out to use them. It's better to get exercised about problematic stuff Bioware would do instead of fretting about other fans.
The sexuality of characters in a game is always going to be a problem. Should they have some reflection on the world and offer a range of different sexual preferences, or should they be player sexual and allow the player to play out their fantasy with their preferred character? It's hard for a game because your cast is going to be limited compared to potential options you might have in your real life. I personally prefer character's that have their own sexual identities, even if it means I don't get my way, because sometimes you can't get your way. I wish deep friendships were also stronger options in games like this as we should be able to have strong non-romantic feeling shared as well.
I get that in some ways more marginalized sexualities might feel like there is some kind of erasure, but mods aren't official, they are more like a form a fan fiction, and people sometimes just need to let others have their fun.

They're neither right nor wrong. What people do with their copy of the game is their business. It has literally has no effect on anyone else's experience. Plus, these are fictional characters we're talking about. The fact that some people get all worked up about it is pathetic.
Personally I wouldn't use these mods as I like the characters the way they are. As you said in the case of Dorian, the fact that he's gay is important to his backstory and character arc, so IMO it would be weird to make him straight. But if someone else wants to, why would I care?

With the recent release of BioWare’s well-received Dragon Age: Inquisition , it’s safe to say that gamers have sunk many an hour exploring the lands of Thedas.
Leave it to the mad geniuses of the PC gaming community to discover ways of modding the PC version of Dragon Age: Inquisition using special tools such as CheatEngine. Already, there have been mods and hacks that allows gamers to play Inquisition from Origin ‘s isometric perspective .
As per the unofficial requirement of many adult-oriented games, people have already found a way to get Dragon Age: Inquisition ‘s party members naked (that is, without having to go through the tenuous approval/relationship system).
TL;DR – Someone discovered a nude mod for Dragon Age: Inquisition .
Using the same program mentioned above, Cheat Engine, a reddit user by the name of No-Shit-Sherlock on /r/DragonAge has discovered a way to get party members naked. 
Obviously, players can already get their chosen romance option naked. However, this particular hack allows gamers to get nearly every party member naked – even when exploring the expanses of Ferelden and Orlais.
What many will be surprised to know is that, apparently, nudity is an armor set in the game, meaning that not every character has a specific nude model for their body. It seems that it is simply an equip-able skin that every party member can wear, allowing them to go about duties in the buff.
Normally, something of this nature would be labeled NSFW (and some of it still is, female companions especially – because boobs), but it appears that BioWare went the whole “Barbie/Ken” route when modeling nudity in Dragon Age Inquisition – meaning that their private parts are omitted, instead having that awkward Barbie doll crotch.
