Don't watch this movie unless you are ready to cry. It was a very emotional film, but it expresses something that doesn't really get talked about in society that much. Basically the mother took it in her own hands to take revenge on the boys who raped her daughter, after she took them to court and they were let go for being minors, and apparently lack of evidence (though there was plenty) The daughter who was raped went from being a happy go lucky girl and spiraled into depression. She committed suicide after she was black mailed into going to one of the boy's houses to get the video of them raping her back. They then raped her again. After this is when she committed suicide. The mother then takes revenge into her own hands. I will not spoil the ending, but I found this movie to be a lot better than I thought it would. I don't usually cry when I watch movies, but I couldn't help it when I thought about all of the things that poor girl must be going through (more so the fact that things like this actually happen all of the time). I would recommend giving this movie a try, especially if you are a prime member, you can watch it for free.

Please note that all those people rating this 'revenge movie' 4 or 5 stars haven't even heard of a movie like "I spit on your grave," and would heartily disapprove of movies like Oldboy or I saw the Devil. At least I'd be willing to bet on it. I'm not even going to go over all its many flaws and weaknesses, just highlight one: its endless, and I mean: endless, melodrama. It's also very schizophrenic, at the same time, it seems, deploring that juvenile delinquency laws in South Korea are messed up; but also - and this is, I'm sure, why its docile audience on Amazon nods approvingly and rates it so high - it goes out of its way to condemn vigilantes...and if you dare be one, you'll die yourself (because South Korean police, it appears, is taught to shoot someone's heart when attempting to disable a person; not, like me father, a Western European cop himself, aim for a limb)! I found it particularly distasteful, and in line with the morally repressed tenor of this movie, that the mom only *really* turns angry when it's about *publishing* a video of the rape - which, in essence, means it's not about her daughter, the person; but her daughter, the public perception/the honor. On top of this, the actual revenge is a total bore, the killing(s) kinda accidental, or at least some, and the 5 minutes slow-mo at the end sums it all up. If you hate violent movies, are for gun control, and abhor vigilantes, but love family fare, you'll get your monthly thrill here. If you like well-written and produced revenge movies, go elsewhere.

This movie was incredibly hard to watch. From the description, I was expecting more of a satisfying revenge story. While revenge is definitely a theme in the movie, it doesn't feel very satisfying and it only comes in the final third of the movie. For the first hour of the movie, you're just going to take an emotional beating as things just get worse and worse. You'll want to scream at the TV for most of the movie. I deducted one star because there are some plot holes in the story, but overall it is an emotionally powerful movie. Just brace yourself before watching. It is not a revenge fantasy.

I gave this one five stars, and of course that means "I Love It". The thing is, I did and I didn't. The acting is absolutely so superb, just fantastic. It is heartfelt, and it is anguishing. Very few films make me sob. Be prepared, this one did. I have a daughter, a 28 year old daughter...and that is what I did not love about it. This film rips your heart out. I know I am not the only parent of a female that feels this way, or will feel this way while viewing this incredible film. There are some plot holes, but the power of the tale in general made them less than negligible for me. So again, I loved it because it is so powerful, and important even, in my opinion. As I have read from other reviewers, make sure and watch through the credits and read the statistics at the end of the film. They will boggle your mind. ~Rhonda

Its genre says Drama and thriller. Well, it was more like a documentary to tell this was a crime case of rape of minors which the laws favored the teen rapers and that is what the mother of the young victim did. I felt less emotionally connected to the mother. It lacks to show mother-daughter attachment. I am just saying that the director could have done better if he/she watched closely to the family of raped victims. I respect the director's motivation. It was well-plotted to arouse the audience that there are unjust laws and bias judgment.

A parent's worst nightmare is fleshed out in this movie, so if you're a parent, be forewarned. Revenge movies basically fall into 2 categories: those that have an intelligent and calculating vigilante or those that have an emotionally-driven but inept protagonist. This one falls into the latter category. On the one hand, one could see this as being a more human and realistic approach, but on the other, it takes a big stretch of the imagination to keep believing how recklessly and foolishly the female lead goes about approaching her adversaries. This film was a hard one to sit through on many levels. The one redeeming part of the movie for me was the ending statistics which shed a much-needed light on the rape statutes in Korea.

This was the most powerful emotional movie, and I continuously cried. I hope Korea change their laws, because this is beyond sad. This would definitely not happen this way in America. I hate the cop shot her in her heart, why not in her leg, or warning shot?? You never know what actions you would take until you're put in that situation. As a mother, my heart felt for this woman and I understood. Wow, Korean movies are great and they live up to making you cry.

Gripping tale, nightmare of any parent. This movie is as good as any revenge flick to have ever come out of hollywood. Acting was first class, production quality first class. Koreans seem to have their own standard endings tho, and they aren't exactly the endings americans are used to. I appreciated this movie tho i'm not sure enjoyed would be the right word. If you don't mind heart wrenching scenes and a bit of violence and a touch of what reality must be like, i'd recommend this flick for you. Now to go find lighter fare so i can sleep in peace.
