Lamborghini, the Italian car manufacturer is making its first step into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, called the Space Key, is a work that was created by a lone artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a physical object that has a link to exclusive digital artwork that can be accessed via a QR code on the back. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part a research project in the year 2019 was sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was transformed into a unique art work after it returned to Earth. The physical piece is embossed with an NFT serial number that ties to the digital artwork by using a QR code that is located on the back.

For those who do not know, NFTs are distinct identification numbers that are stored on a distributed blockchain ledger and tied to digital assets such as a photo, video, music or other record. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity, and tracking of their tokens across the internet.

Lamborghini takes this unique approach to art to a new level by collaborating with NFT PRO - white label NFT solution for businesses. In the coming weeks, the company will be sharing details about this exciting project including the name of the unidentified artist, as well as the timeline for the auction.

Carbon fiber was 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive, digital artwork via QR codes. Only five Space Keys were produced.

Each Space Key contains a block made of advanced carbon-fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research program. After returning to Earth, it was engraved with an QR code that connects it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times when the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Over 600 million pixels make up each of the five images which were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.
