Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary
Mulliner Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding unit, has created a unique keycase to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the brand. Made from Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a fluttering 'B' paperweight, a set of keys and a brochure that features never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.
This is the perfect way to greet a new car owner.
As a design-centric company Bentley takes its aesthetics seriously. It shows in the precision position of its quilting, the selection of leather from by-products of cattle, the wood from sustainable forests and the creative patterns on its levers. As you approach a car like the Continental GT W12, its stunning design is accentuated by carefully selected lighting.
The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever created. The rear tonneau of the Continental GT, for instance it was the largest piece ever of dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer that was book-matched. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.
It is this bespoke design, craftsmanship and attention to detail that has established Bentley as the most sought-after automobile brand. The company continues to push the boundaries with the latest technology and craftsmanship. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear window sunroof as well as a hand-crafted Apple iPad docking station.
Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019 one hundred years after it was established. The marque, now owned by Volkswagen without a partner following years of dispute with BMW and BMW, had planned a number of special launches and events to mark this significant occasion. Prior to the pandemic plan taking the spotlight, the marque had a range of special events and launches planned to mark the occasion.
Design

Bentley is known for its extravagant and lavish cars and keys, but even the keys are designed to stand out. The Bentayga key is made from sterling silver. It features the large 'B' symbol which lets everyone know that you drive a Bentley. It also has the years 1919 and 2019, to commemorate the company's centenary.
The Mulsanne was redesigned and redeveloped by Bentley Mulliner, to be the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats were designed to give passengers unparalleled comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. The unique heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system was designed to give every passenger the perfect temperature control.
The Mulsanne comes with a twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that puts out 560bhp and 479lb-ft of torque. This colossal power is complemented by a revolutionary suspension system that provides Bentley's hushed, quiet ride.
In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a unique specification called the Centenary Specification for cars built in 2019. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embroidered with Centenary Gold, adding to the feeling of celebration. A custom Bentley key case is included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.
Function
The Bentley Mulsanne key comes with a button that opens the trunk and another that turns on the car. It also has a button to switch on the parking break. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors when parked in a tight space. This feature can aid you in getting in and out of your vehicle more easily.
Each key takes about two days to create. The key is cut by hand, shaped by hand, stitched, sealed, and then polished to give a superior result. It is lightweight and durable and matches the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar to that of the Volkswagen Phaeton large car's key however, it feels heavier and has a luxurious feel.
Secure-A-Key is also available to help prevent keyless entry theft. The device is placed inside the remote control key fob and is turned off after a few minutes of inactivity, which prevents thieves from transmitting the frequency of the key to other devices that can unlock and start the vehicle.
Bentley's unique design reflects the firm's values of high-quality craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as cutting-edge technology. Over 4,000 employees are employed at the Crewe headquarters, responsible for the development, design and production of Bentley cars. They apply their skills that have been handed down through generations to cutting-edge automotive technologies. This is a characteristic of British manufacturing at its best.
Personalisation
Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their own car. Customers sit at a set of images, referred to "mood stations" and choose a selection of photos ranging from picturesque vistas to sporting events - that can inspire them. After each selection is made, a pattern emerges that reveals the model and color preferences for the custom Bentley.
The configuration that is created is loaded onto individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys which are presented to guests in a hand-crafted key case. The keys can also be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that light up the door's opening path with the owner's name and/or emblem as they are approaching the vehicle.
Bentley estimates that it takes 500 man-hours on average to build and put together the Mulsanne. The inability to adopt modern technology is the main factor to this laborious task. Instead of employing a machine for spacers to the perfectly-matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers must park their cars manually, rather than relying on the built-in sensors to direct them to parallel and perpendicular spots.
The event also saw Bentley presented its Mulliner personalization capabilities by presenting an exclusive example of the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays tribute to the founding father of the brand, William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars include an item key that shows a piece of the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
