Dolly Parton Launches New Initiative to Provide Free Books to Children in Rural Areas

Nashville, TN — May 2, 2025

Country music legend and philanthropist Dolly Parton has announced an expansion of her beloved Imagination Library program, aiming to provide even more free books to children in underserved rural communities. The initiative, which began in 1995, has already distributed over 200 million books worldwide.

The new campaign, titled 'Books Build Bridges,' will focus on reaching remote areas where access to libraries and educational resources is limited. Parton, 79, shared her excitement in a heartfelt video message: 'Every child deserves the joy of reading, no matter where they live. If we can inspire just one kid to dream bigger, we’ve done our job.'

The expansion is backed by a $10 million donation from Parton’s own foundation, alongside partnerships with major publishers and literacy organizations. Schools and parents in eligible regions can sign up for the program starting June 1, 2025.

Parton, known for hits like 'Jolene' and '9 to 5,' has long been a champion for education. In addition to her music and acting career, she has funded scholarships, COVID-19 research, and disaster relief efforts. 'Giving back is what keeps me going,' she said with a smile.

Fans and educators alike are praising the move, with many taking to social media to thank the icon for her unwavering generosity. As one Twitter user put it: 'Dolly Parton doesn’t just write love songs—she lives a life of love in action.'
