Does a Snapchat Memories export include My Eyes Only?

Does a Snapchat Memories export include My Eyes Only?

Short answer: no. Snap's data export does not describe a My Eyes Only download, so assume those snaps are not in the ZIP.

What Snap says

  • Snap's Help Center says My Eyes Only snaps can only be opened with your passcode (a 4-digit code or a passphrase).
  • If you forget the passcode, Snap says Team Snapchat can't recover your My Eyes Only snaps.
  • The "How do I download my data" article lists Memories among the things you can request, and doesn't mention My Eyes Only.

So how do I save them?

The practical route that many guides describe is to move the snaps you want out of My Eyes Only into regular Memories first, and request the export after that. Do this while you still remember your passcode. Then check in the app that backup says Complete, so everything is on Snap's servers when the export is built.

Think about this before you move them: once a snap is in regular Memories it is no longer behind the passcode. Decide what you are comfortable having in an unencrypted export folder on your computer, and put the ZIP somewhere safe.

The January 2027 deadline

Snap says that starting in January 2027, Memories that are more than a year old and not part of your oldest 5GB will be archived. This is about storage, and archived Memories stay on Snapchat as thumbnails. If you plan to take your Memories out of the app, don't leave the export, or the My Eyes Only step, for December.

After the export

Your photos will come as -main files with optional -overlay.png captions, dated only by their file names. To get proper capture dates (and location when Snap recorded it) into Google Photos or Apple Photos, they need to be written into the files. The site snapchatmemoriesdownload.com has a page on this exact question, and its tool does the date fix in the browser. It cannot open My Eyes Only and doesn't ask for your passcode or Snapchat password. If anyone asks you for those, don't give them.
