Dodgers Acquire Burnes for Prospects Ahead of Playoffs

Los Angeles Dodgers Make Blockbuster Trade Ahead of Playoff Push

Los Angeles, CA — October 10, 2024

In a stunning move just before the postseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired two-time Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for top prospects Diego Cartaya and Nick Nastrini, along with a player to be named later.

The trade, finalized late last night, solidifies the Dodgers’ rotation as they prepare for a deep playoff run. Burnes, 29, boasts a 2.86 ERA this season with 215 strikeouts, adding another elite arm to a staff already featuring Tyler Glasnow and Walker Buehler.

'We’re thrilled to bring Corbin to Los Angeles,' said Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman. 'His experience and dominance on the mound will be invaluable as we chase another championship.'

The move comes just days after the Dodgers clinched their 11th NL West title in 12 years, further cementing their status as World Series favorites. Fans at Dodger Stadium erupted in cheers when the announcement was made during tonight’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee gains two highly touted young players in Cartaya, a power-hitting catcher, and Nastrini, a promising right-handed pitcher. The Brewers, currently in a tight Wild Card race, appear to be retooling for the future.

With Burnes set to debut in Dodger blue this weekend, all eyes are now on whether this blockbuster trade will be the final piece needed to bring another title to Los Angeles.
