this movie was horrible. Who the hell is Jenny McCarthy to mock Woody Allen, in a comedy no less? Lewd jokes, which, are not really jokes at all, and crass sight gags, do automatically make something funny. The Farrelly Brothers use this kind of comedy well because hidden within the toilet humor is some form of wit or intelligence. These jokes, which, are thrown at us relentlessly, are devoid of any true comedy, relying on shock-value and funny faces to makes us laugh(which they don't. The over-acting compounds this; the constant "funny" hysterical crying of McCarthy(she obviously thinks she's a comic genius, which, only further irritates the viewer,) the ghetto shtick of Carmen Electra (she was better than i expected) and the airhead-Hollywood-stereotype of the other best friend; all of it tires after five minutes. It is not that I think this type of comedy is always awful; it's just awful in the hands of a lazy writer like McCarthy. In all, a very unfunny, boring movie.

Dirty love is an early 2000s movie that starred and was written by Jenny McCarthy. She was not quite at the height of her fame (when she was Playmate of the Year and then in her MTV days), but she was not far removed from it. It is basically a comedy about a hot girl getting dumped, doing a bunch of stupid stuff, and then ending up with the geeky guy who really loves her (played by American Pie's Eddie Kaye Thomas). I would not really classify it as a romantic comedy, more just a straight-up comedy. And, anyone who is familiar with McCarthy's brand of comedy knows that it is raunchy. While there is some sex (more discussion than actual depiction) there are some boob shots from McCarthy, who has never been shy about taking off her clothes. But, they are fairly quick and it is not anything all that explicit. For those who get the DVDs, the extras include a commentary track by McCarthy and the director John Asher (whom McCarthy was engaged to at the time the movie was made), some behind-the-scenes clips, and cast interviews. Nothing spectacular, but they're for people who want to go through the bonus material Overall, the movie pretty much stays in its lane and does not try to take itself too seriously. No, it is not an award winner by any stretch, but it does not pretend to be. It is just kind of a dumb, fun movie with MaCarthy poking fun at herself, and her and Carmen Electra looking good. If you expect anything more than that you will definitely be disappointed. But, if you take it for what it is, a dumb movie that has some funny moments, then you may enjoy it.

If you are familiar with Jenny McCarthy’s body of work then you are aware that this movie is going to be fully ridiculous. That being said, this is me and my sister’s favorite bad movie to watch together. Don’t think that there’s anything serious about this movie because it’s all jokes. Hilarious at times. Don’t watch with your children, this movie is for grown (mostly) women only. Enjoy!

But this movie deserves a better review. First the Bad: Dirty Love is NOT everyone's cup of tea as many previous reviews indicate. There are scenes that are extraordinarily vivid in their bawdy humor. Absolutely not for kids. Many people will simply consider the humor to be profane or idiotic or both. This is also a low budget production. The premise is a pedestrian, Girl-Looking-For-Mister-Right, theme with a happy ending. Now the Good: If bawdy humor is your thing this movie has some hilarious moments. Many of them. In fact some of the writing is inspired in it's eye-opening depictions of the excitement, and misery, in the modern dating scene. Jenny McCarthy wrote the script, it reflects her sense of humor, and is thus a very personal, heartfelt work as well. Despite the well worn subject matter McCarthy's script is very funny. Her depiction of the creepy guys she meets are wonderfully over the top. Her goofy, vain, air-heady, but ultimately loyal and caring friends are quite well played by Carmen Electra and Kam Heskin. Who knew Electra could act? There are many tender moments that are truly sweet. Yet some of these scenes take dramatic turns into the gutter in ways that are truly jarring. I found these sudden changes as funny as they were intended to be but it takes a special sense of humor to appreciate the sweet moments AND laugh at the completely over the top way Jenny's period arrives (in vivid color) right in the middle of the supermarket. The real revelation here though is McCarthy herself. Her performance is quite funny and she's a skilled actress with real ability in physical comedy. She's wearing her heart on her sleeve in this movie. You really can see how thoughtful and sensitive she is but also get a strong understanding of the crazy and, likely close to her own experiences, horrific world of finding the right guy in LA. Totally willing to subject herself to the most outrageous situations, she literally puts her body out there for all to see, sometimes in ways that will make you cringe, sometimes to admire her beauty inside and out. It's her film and it's a good one. I really enjoyed it. Editing this several months later... OK 4 stars is just too high a rating all things considered. 3 is more appropriate but that still warrants a good rating for this movie with some unexpectedly gutsy humor.

Sometimes my wife and I become disgruntled in the attempt to find something to watch when the whole idea is to settle down. We chose this movie because I have always thought Jenny McCarthy is charming, and we just wanted a throwaway, terrible film to fill an hour and a half of Friday-night decompression. I cannot call this movie terrible. I honestly kept telling myself "don't get your hopes up," but I wasn't ever really let down: the base narrative is not especially imaginative, but the dialogue that actually pertains to the narrative is adequately written. Some of the bits are slapstick, but although I am typically averse to physical comedy, I laughed a few times at those and for what it's worth, some of the content that could be categorized as revulsion humor didn't phase me at all and was instead funny. I believe that effect to be the positive result of how seriously the movie does not take itself. It owns its character and quality, which makes it all the more charming and entertaining. Ultimately, we were very surprised to see the one star reviews owing to how "trite" the movie was, because it never pretended to be anything else. Additionally, I don't know when we've been so relaxed or laughed so often in any film we've seen in a while and, frankly, we watch a whole lot of movies. It's a fine movie if you watch it for the right reasons. Also, boobs.

Although Jenny McCarthy should keep her mouth shut when it comes to uneducated opinions on childhood vaccinating, I think this was a VERY funny movie, and quite an accomplishment for a first try to write and act, on an obvious low budget. I think the direction and especially the set design were quite good. You could see there was NO money spent on sets, but with good direction, and camp feel of the movie, the art direction worked surprisingly well with almost an arty feel. It seemed like Jenny called in favors from all her girlfriends, like Kathy Griffin, who was her usual hilarious self as the fortune teller. It kind of reminded me of high school, when we would gather all our girlfriends together to go egg a car. I think what many people objected to, was the brave, "no holds barred" slapstick, that wasn't very ladylike, but wouldn't have been given a second thought if guys were doing it. If you consider just the physicality this film required of Jenny, it's pretty impressive, and allowed her to use her talents as a fearless comic actress No wonder she has such a gorgeous body, she is obviously in very good physical shape. I wouldn't want to do too many takes of many of those scenes. And I don't know how scenes that were obviously "inspired" by the Marx Brothers could be so unfunny to other reviewers. The scene in the shoe store where they all slap each other is a classic routine, and done very well. I loved Carmen Electra as the hilarious white girl who doesn't know she's NOT a black home girl, Kam Heston, as the other perfectly ditzy blonde friend, and Eddie Kaye Thomas, as John, the neighbor Jenny seems to not notice is in love with her. Just good dirty fun. What I'd like to know is the background of the McCarthy side of the family, to produce Jenny AND Melissa! Holidays must be Wild in that family!
