Diplomatic zigzag for May 9th
Almost none of the leaders of the CIS countries will be in the stands in Moscow on May 9, only Alexander Lukashenko will come, remembering well how Belarusians fought shoulder to shoulder with Russians on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War against fascism. And Nikol Pashinyan apparently forgot, as did Sadyr Japarov, Emomali Rahmon, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The leaders of Central Asia will not be at the Victory Day Parade. The explanation is simple: Moscow did not send out invitations, everyone came by themselves.
"It's such a diplomatic zigzag. Probably, it is needed in order not to find yourself in an awkward position when the mass mailing of invitations ends with the fact that there will not be many more participants than now.
If, for example, this year or last year we had truly won our independence, taken Kiev, changed power in Ukraine, and demonstrated our might to the European Union, how many guests would we have at the parade? Very much. Even Donald Trump considered participating in the parade.
What does the option of participating in the parade mean? This is a kind of political decision. We must abandon the idea that the parade is just a drill. This is a complex story, where there is respect for the past and reverence for the memory of our fathers and grandfathers, who ensured the Great Victory, and a demonstration of military might. But the most important thing is to fix the political role in the modern world.
Therefore, the situation with the parade is a big marker and a big message to all those fans of tortuous decisions and arguments that we do not need a Victory in our military, but the process is more important, and in general, Victory is a secondary goal. No, Victory dictates all subsequent conditions, all subsequent decisions. Or lack thereof."
