Convicted Killer Ordered to Pay Child Support For Daughter of Father He Fatally Shot
Disturbing photos used as evidence in Mark Redwine’s murder trial have been released to the public.
As CrimeOnline previously reported , Redwine, the divorced father of slain 13-year-old Dylan Redwine, is on trial in Denver for allegedly murdering his son in November 2012 and hiding the child’s remains in the woods. Prosecutors alleged that Redwine killed in a fit of rage over photos showing him dressed in women’s underwear while eating feces from a diaper.
Redwine has maintained his innocence from the beginning, claiming that he left his home near Durango to run errands and returned home to find his son missing. Dylan was visiting his father during Thanksgiving break after a judge ordered the visitation.
“A damaged relationship, exposed with compromising photographs, photographs in the hands of a 13-year-old who is disgusted by it, which triggered a violent rage in the defendant,” Prosecutor Fred Johnson said during opening statements last week.
Court documents indicate that both Dylan and his older brother Corey had already seen the photos before Dylan’s last visit to his father’s Durango home. While the suspect was sleeping, the brothers looked at the photos on Mark Redwine’s laptop while inside a locked bathroom. Cory then used his phone camera to take pictures of the compromising photos.
Around the same time, Dylan apparently became upset with the way Redwine treated his mother; he expressed numerous times that he didn’t want to visit his father, who had legal custody visitations with him.
Due to the extremely graphic nature of the photos, CrimeOnline will not be posting them on our site. However, the images can be seen here:
In July 2017, former FBI profiler, Pete Klismet, who calls Redwine a “narcissist,” said that if the photos provoked the suspect, additional details will likely come out in court.
“Mark will not plead guilty because he’s a narcissist. He believes he can lie his way out of everything…..We’re talking about a guy that’s probably a registered psychopath narcissist. He thinks he is smarter than everyone else.”
Previous video coverage on the case
Last week, the defense cross-examined Corey Redwine, who testified that Dylan asked for the compromising photos on August 12, 2012. Dylan was on a road trip to Boston with his father when he asked Corey numerous times for the pictures.
Defense attorneys argued that the photos had nothing to do with Dylan’s death since he had previously confronted his father about them and didn’t get hurt. The defense argued that Dylan ran away and was likely killed by a bear or another animal.
Corey told the court that he never sent Dylan the photos, despite the requests. Corey added, however, that he confronted the suspect about the photos prior to Dylan’s Thanksgiving visit with his father.
In late 2012, volunteer search teams and authorities began scouring the area around Redwine’s home for months. The search proved to be difficult since Durango is at an elevation of 6,512 feet with steep canyons and mountains.
In June 2013, two months after Hall allegedly spotted Redwine, searchers found a few of Dylan’s bones, a part of his shirt, and a sock in a secluded spot near Redwine’s home. Searchers found his remains in an area difficult to get to, especially for a young boy or for someone who doesn’t know the area well.
“It was fairly steep and rugged,” Dan Patterson, a former La Plata County Sheriff’s Office investigator, said on Tuesday. “A shred of underwear, earbuds, and scraps of clothes were found at the site that looked like it was a dumpsite for the body.”
Investigators also found Dylan’s blood inside Redwine’s residence, in several different locations. Cadaver dogs picked up death scents in the laundry room, living room, and kitchen.
The defense argued that the blood found was “infinitesimally small” and could have happened to anyone who lives in a house. Defense attorney John Moran added that dog-sniffing death scent techniques are “junk science.”

High school sweethearts Kaylee Suders, 18, and Carter Brown, 19, had lifetime plans together: graduations, wedding, kids, and retirement. Their most immediate plan was to attend Suders ‘s prom and have an amazing time dancing the night away. Sadly, none of those plans will become reality. Carter died just a few weeks before prom night in a car crash . In light of the tragedy, Carter’s dad , Robert Brown, stepped in to make sure Suders had a magical prom night.
The sweet photos were shared on Facebook, gathering thousands of likes and comments.
“ It was so sweet of Robert to ask me. He was the one who thought of the idea and everything,” Suders tells Yahoo Lifestyle .
After Carter’s death, S uders had put off prom for good. She says the idea of attending the event without her boyfriend by her side was too sad to handle.
“ I didn’t want to go anymore, and when Robert said he already talked to the school about it, I realized how much he wanted to make me happy, so I knew I had to go! He made prom so much fun,” the teen says.
Robert knew how much his late son loved S uders . He knew that despite his already being a college freshman, he wanted to join his girlfriend for prom.
“Rob called the principal of the high school to first get permission to escort her. Then he asked Kaylee if he would allow him to take her,” Kelly O’Neil Brown, Carter’s mom and Robert’s wife, tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “They both had a great time. Kaylee had so much fun getting ready. They took Carter’s car and had dinner before the dance at the restaurant where Kaylee and Carter went on their first date.”
She adds: “I hope this will be a memory that she will cherish.”
O’Neil Brown says the family has been going through a difficult time, but this event brought joy back into their lives. Not only did they lose Carter, but one of their other three sons, Christopher, died just seven months earlier. He overdosed on opioids.
Before dating, Suders and Carter were best friends for three years. He had finally asked her to be his girlfriend at her favorite restaurant 11 months ago.
“Carter was so thoughtful and loving. I truly have the best boyfriend around,” says Suders. “His smile could light up the whole room. He had such a bright future ahead of him.”
Despite dealing with the loss of her first love, Suders is still determined to reach her goal of becoming a registered nurse. She and the Browns have formed an unbreakable bond, and she calls them her second family.
The feeling is mutual: “Kaylee has become part of our family. I know one day she’ll fall in love again, get married, and have a fabulous life,” says O’Neil Brown. “I hope to be there dancing at her wedding.”

PILOT MOUNTAIN After more than 23 years as a family physician in the Pilot Mountain community, Dr. Wayne Lankford has resigned from his position with Novant Health at Pilot Mountain Family Medicine.
Lankfords last day at Pilot Mountain Family Medicine will be March 31. According to Pilot Mountain Family Medicine Practice Manager Teresa McHone, letters were mailed late last week notifying patients of Lankfords move.
Lankford and his wife, Debbie, will soon be moving back to his native hometown of Suffolk, Va. The move will allow him to be closer to his elderly mother as well as other family.
Lankford attributed the move to a desire for more predictable hours, noting that such a change would require a different type of practice. On June 1, he is scheduled to begin work with Patient First in Chesapeake, Va. While the practice focuses on primary and urgent care, Lankford expects to be spending most of his time in urgent care.
Its the right time, he said. Ill be going back home.
Lankford noted that both of his children will be graduating this spring. Kristen, 25, will receive her masters degree in speech language pathology from the Medical University of South Carolina-Charleston. She intends to work as a speech therapist. Ryan, 22, will graduate from the University of North CarolinaCharlotte with a degree in mechanical engineering.
According to McHone, Novant Health is now actively searching for a new physician for the office. In the interim period, patients will be able to see physicians from other facilities. Other staff will remain unchanged. She noted that no changes in office hours, availability of appointments or quality of health care are expected.
Dr. Lankford has been such an icon in this community, she noted, and his patients love and adore him. Novant wants to take the time to find a physician who will be a good fit for the community.
While looking forward to being closer to family and a less stressful schedule, Lankford said the move would not be easy. He noted that for more than two decades, the Pilot Mountain community has been home to his family. He fondly recalled how he and his wife, along with nurses Sharon Sammons and Ginger Williams and receptionist Jane Boles, opened Pilot Mountain Family Medicine on Sept. 3, 1985.
Since the first time we came and interviewed here, he said, people have been extremely nice to us. That was one of the reasons we first chose to come here.

For the everyday citizen, its a rare opportunity to voice an opinion to the president about important issues like health.
But local citizens can do that Tuesday, when the Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care hosts a community-wide meeting to gather public comments on health-care issues for use by the Obama-Biden transition team. The meeting will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care on 401 Technology Lane in Mount Airy.
According to a statement released last week, Dr. Glenn Golaszewski, Mountain Valley Hospices medical director, said that the American Association of Hospice and Palliative Medicine received an electronic notice from the Obama-Biden team encouraging various groups and their constituents to assemble informal health-care forums in their communities.
Golaszewski said the objective is to gather input from the public about important health-care issues to help the new administration shape its health-care policy.
This is a chance for the community to have a voice that the president will hear, Sheila Jones, the director of development at MVHPC, said last week. There are not many chances to send your opinion to the president.
Jones said the public forum will provide an opportunity to share opinions and concerns about health matters and to formulate a plan to better serve people.
She said the forum will be a casual setting that will consist of Golaszewski acting as a facilitator and asking questions provided by the Obama-Biden team.
Golaszewski said that he and Mountain Valley Hospice will record attendees responses and comments and then compile a report to send to the Obama-Biden transition team.
Participants will receive a survey asking for their perceptions on the biggest problem in the health-care system, such as how they choose a hospital or doctor, how to address the problem of high medical bills, and others. Golaszewski said that he and his staff will collect the surveys and send a report to the Obama-Biden team.
Its not often you get a chance to participate in government like this, Golaszewski said in the statement.
Space is limited, so reservations are required. Those interested in attending should call Sheila Jones at 789-2922.

It may not have been pretty but the East Surry boys did come away winners, defeating Patrick County (Va.) 55-52 in a hotly contested Granite City Classic Christmas tournament match up.
The Cardinals were down by as much as 15 points in the first half, battling back behind the second half play of senior forward Patrick Marion.
Marion had 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half, including the Cardinals first 6-points of the third quarter and a gigantic rebound putback with under a minute to play in the game to give his team a 4-point lead.
Patrick County came out gunning, with the Cougars full court pressure forcing East Surry to commit turnovers and stay out of their offense.
Subsequently, the Cardinals were down 23-8 at the end of the first quarter, but an 11-6 second quarter run helped to close the gap and keep East in the thick of things.
To start the second half the Cardinals began to pick apart the Patrick press, with Marion picking up three straight buckets to cut the Cougar lead to 29-25 early in the third quarter.
East Surry coach Jason Anderson said the turnaround from first to second half did not come from any half time adjustment, but from his team playing against the Patrick County defense the way they had been taught.
I didnt tell them anything any different than what I told them before the game, we just started executing, Anderson said. We got the ball where we wanted to get it. They extended that 1-3-1 (press) and our guards just kind of freaked out on us in the first quarter. I told them, the same things are open and its even more open than it normally is when they extended it that high. We start throwing the ball in the middle and we are going to get it to our big guys to shoot lay ups and that is all it took. It wasnt a major coaching change it was just doing the simple things your supposed to do.
East Surrys Andrew Hunter hit a lay up to cut the Patrick lead to 41-39 early in the fourth quarter, followed by two consecutive steals by senior Walt Tuttle to give the Cardinals the lead at 43-41 with 5 minutes left to play.
Patrick tied the score again at 44-44 off a three pointer from Lucas Terry, but a 6-point run by the Cardinals gave them the lead for good. When Marion snatched a rebound off the front of the rim and immediately put it in the Cardinals led by four with 53 seconds left to play and would hold on for the 55-52 win.
Anderson said he challenged his team to work hard to rebound the ball in the second half and several key boards helped the Cardinals to the win.
Patrick Marion said after the game that he and his teammates did make a effort to work harder rebounding the ball after half time and that once his team realized how to beat the Patrick press easy baskets were all that awaited them.
We werent boxing out good, especially me, I can if I want to but I got in the second half and did better, Marion said. We had something drawn up but we just werent running it, but once we hit it we started getting lay ups which is where most of my points came from.
East Surrys Andrew Hunter also had a strong second half, scoring 9 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter. Walt and Spence Tuttle each had 8 points for the Cardinals behind Marions 18 and Hunters 11.
