Digital Technology as a Catalyst for Development: How Kazakhstan is Developing an AI Ecosystem
Kazakhstan is actively introducing new technologies into society, creating favourable conditions for the development of innovation and the digital economy. Last December, the opening of the Alem.ai artificial intelligence centre was announced. At the moment, the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan continues to work on further implementation of artificial intelligence in key sectors of the economy and social sphere.
The Artificial Intelligence Bill is under consideration by Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will provide a legal framework for the development and safe use of AI technology.
Special attention is paid to the creation of technological infrastructure. The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan is working on the creation of a supercomputer and chips.
The AI infrastructure also includes the National AI Platform, which has already developed 11 prototype AI agents aimed at improving the efficiency of public administration and simplifying access to public services.
The Ministry initiated the Industrial AI Accelerator programme covering key sectors: industry, energy, medicine, finance.
The Industrial AI Accelerator includes the stages of selecting and training teams and launching pilot projects: the first phase was implemented in the sectors of mining, energy, medicine, fintech and public sector. According to the results: 116 applications were submitted, 32 companies were accelerated, 27 pilot projects were launched, 4 of which have already demonstrated their effectiveness and are ready to be scaled up. An important part of the ecosystem will be the International Artificial Intelligence Centre Alem.ai, which will unite educational, scientific and entrepreneurial initiatives. It will host public areas, TUMO School, Tomorrow School, AI-campus, R&D centre and AI Government situation centre
In 2025, it is planned to launch the Alem.ai centre, establish an AI Development Council, commission a supercomputer cluster, launch educational programmes, and approve an AI strategy.
