DevOps engineer
PythonAbout us
Hello! We are Gehtsoft USA LLC, registered with our main office located in the state of North Carolina, in the city of Raleigh. The company has been in operation since 2000, and since 2008, we have been active in the USA.
Our primary focus is custom software development, but not in the conventional sense of "outsourcing" or "outstaffing." We specialize in situations where the client may not have a clear understanding of what needs to be done or how to accomplish it. It would be more accurate to describe our work as "turnkey product development." However, we currently do not have our own products—perhaps because, as the saying goes, "the cobbler's children have no shoes."
Responsibilities:
The person will be responsible for:
- Developing the DevOps culture, including the implementation of the three ways of DevOps:
- Reducing and straightening value stream delivery chains.
- Creating and reducing feedback loops.
- Creating a culture of information dissemination.
- Creating and spreading automation methods at all stages of SDLC, focusing on:
- Implementing CI/CD pipelines.
- Implementing automated testing at all stages and for all categories of requirements.
- Implementing tools for static and dynamic product analysis.
- Implementing automated configuration, deployment, and monitoring tools.
- Implementing automation of routine operations at all stages, from collecting and preparing requirements.
- Creating a system for collecting, analyzing, and making decisions based on metrics.
- Implementing key elements of lean management.
- Implementing and supporting processes, skills, and systems for collecting, systematizing, and disseminating information.
If you've recognized CALMS in the above list and know what it is, you've already passed at least a third of the interview :)
Trial Period Targets (3 months):
Month 1:
- Evaluated projects and teams in the responsibility zone based on all 5 CALMS principles.
- Prepared a DevOps development plan for the next 3 months.
Months 1-2:
- Developed and implemented one improvement. The effectiveness of the improvement is demonstrated with T2M and A2I metrics from EBM.
Month 2:
- Conducted training for teams on basic DevOps principles.
- Analyzed and discussed Definition of Done (DoD) with teams from the perspective of DevOps principles and practices. Teams started demonstrating the application of DevOps practices and principles in weekly reports on improvement of product compliance with DoD.
Month 3:
- Conducted and implemented improvements in each of the 5 CALMS principles.
- Projects in the responsibility zone have a functional CI pipeline.
- Teams have a plan for the next six months to implement DevOps practices and approaches, with target indicators expressed in EBM metrics.
Knowledge and Skills:
Mandatory:
- Understanding DevOps as a culture and approach to product development and operation (i.e., part of the interview will discuss the book "The DevOps Handbook" by Gene Kim). We will assess knowledge and the ability to apply it in practice.
- Practical experience with DevOps tools (CI/CD pipelines, metrification, deployment, knowledge management).
Highly Valued:
- People transitioning to DevOps from development.
- Knowledge in related areas: Agile (especially Disciplined Agile), Lean Management, Six Sigma.
- Certifications: DoL, DASSM, DAC, DAVSC.
- Technical certifications: e.g., Azure (especially MCSE DevOps), AWS.
- Understanding of automation principles is more important than specific tools. Advocates of "only Jenkins," "only GitHub actions," and so on are definitely unneeded. We are looking for a lead developer, so the key factor is, "he should teach us how to do DevOps, not the other way around." :)
Working Conditions:
- Vacation/sick leave/holidays follow the American model.
- Each employee has 15 days off per year, which can be used at their discretion.
- 1 day off can be used at any time, more will have to be approved by the team.
- Each year worked adds 1 additional day off per year.
- Official holidays: Christmas holidays (Catholic or Orthodox, so 12/24-1/2 or 12/31-1/7), Independence Day (7/4), Thanksgiving (4th Thursday of November). Holidays can be transferred to a different time if need be. You could say that there are 20 days off a year, and only Christmas (24-25) and New Year (31-1) are holidays. .
- Equipment reimbursement: A laptop is provided (to be returned if the person leaves before one year), or a $1000/year budget for personal equipment.
- Training: Internal training is provided and paid for; after training, a certain period of work commitment is required, usually at a rate 1 month per 200 dollars spent.
- Maternity leave: For employees who have worked for more than a year, the company pays for 15 working days of paternity leave and up to 60 working days for maternity leave.
- Severance pay: For those who have worked for 1 year - 1 month's salary, 2 years - 2 months' salary, 3 years and beyond - 3 months' salary. The salary is paid upon contract termination, regardless of the reason for termination.
For those who are useful and needed we are ready to provide аdditional benefits such as financial aid, low-interest loans, relocation assistance, etc. Basically, if you treat us well, we'll treat you well :)
