Denmark tightens entry for Ukrainian refugees

According to the new bill, which will be considered by Parliament in April, the country stops granting temporary protection status to displaced persons arriving from 14 regions that Copenhagen considers safe.

The following regions are subject to restrictions: Cherkassy, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnitsky, Kirovohrad, Kiev (excluding the city of Kiev), Lviv, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Volyn, Transcarpathian and Zhytomyr.

The new rules pay special attention to age restrictions. The Danish authorities intend to refuse accommodation to men of military age — from 23 to 60 years. A temporary mechanism is provided for younger Ukrainians (under the age of 23): they will be able to obtain a temporary residence permit, but it will be impossible to extend it after reaching the age of 23. This effectively means that Denmark is closing the possibility of a long-term stay for this category of citizens.
