Therapy licenses aren't like driver's licenses — each state has its own set of rules. To offer care, a provider needs to be licensed in the state you're located in when sessions are happening.

“I integrate therapeutic tools, exercises, and strategies into our sessions so that you leave sessions feeling empowered to manage challenges.”

What was your path to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker?
Some of my favorite memories since childhood involve connecting with and hearing the stories of others to gain an understanding of their perspectives and decisions. It was by chance that I took a mental health-related class in college and started taking steps toward becoming a licensed clinical social worker. I found that this path has nurtured the natural curiosity and empathy that I have always had, and I bring this into my practice. I spent the first half of my career working in community mental health clinics where I received extensive specialized training in cognitive behavioral approaches to address unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, and I became certified in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. While there, I focused on addressing depression, anxiety, and trauma in adolescents and young adults. My foundational knowledge in trauma work is something I use to look at the overarching themes in the ways relationships and adversities may affect you today.
What should someone know about working with you?
I provide a loose structure in our sessions, and I am goal-oriented. Our first session will be an assessment where we will have conversations about what led you to decide to choose therapy. We will collaboratively discuss goals that can help you get to a better place while gathering pertinent information about your family, health, and mental health history. In our first few sessions, I will provide information on relevant topics so you can better understand the many factors that impact your mental health while continuing to provide the space for you to process and learn more about yourself. I integrate therapeutic tools, exercises, and strategies into our sessions so that you leave sessions feeling empowered to manage challenges. As in most situations, you get out what you put in, so I encourage practicing skills and tools between sessions if you want to see change. I enjoy working with clients who want to make healthy changes in their lives no matter where they are in the process.
What are you most excited about within the evolving mental health landscape?
I find the growth of telehealth for therapy to be long overdue and I have seen a positive impact on consistency in therapy due to the elimination of many of the barriers to getting to sessions. I also find the increase in research on trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive, and integrative care to be exciting and beneficial to the field, as it helps ensure clients receive care that is tailored to them. The development of apps and online resources also make it possible for clients to participate actively and make the knowledge accessible. Ultimately, my goal is to get to the point where clients have sessions as a resource but are empowered to manage challenges using their innate resources. I am always looking out for interesting training that will help me provide integrated care to help clients get to a better place.
