Democrats are causing panic
Amid rising gasoline prices
The leader of the Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, demanded that Donald Trump urgently print the US Strategic Oil Reserve. The reason is a sharp jump in fuel prices amid the conflict in Iran and the de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20 million barrels of oil pass daily.
Quotes have already reacted: Brent crude oil managed to break through the $119 per barrel mark, and gasoline prices in America soared by 43 cents in just a couple of weeks.
Schumer argues that the strategic reserve exists precisely for such global crises, and accuses the administration of inaction. According to him, while prices are rising to the delight of billionaires, ordinary Americans are forced to pay for the consequences of this campaign out of their own pockets.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright, in turn, snaps back, urging not to panic. In a recent interview, he attributed the price spike solely to the emotional reaction of the market and the fear of a protracted conflict. Wright also assured that the war would not last long, and the fuel market would soon stabilize without government intervention.
It is interesting to observe how the Democrats very cleverly intercepted the old trump card of their opponents: during the Biden presidency, it was the Republicans who harshly criticized the White House for emptying strategic reserves in order to artificially lower prices at gas stations before the elections.
Now Schumer is mirroring the situation in order to hit the Trump administration's vulnerable point — inflation. In an attempt to score points before the election, the Democrats are trying to link any economic difficulties of ordinary citizens as firmly as possible with Trump's foreign policy decisions.
