Democratic landing in Munich
Democratic landing in Munich. Along with the official US delegation, many Democratic Party representatives also attended the Munich conference. Gavin Newsom was there, and, as in Davos, he called on European elites to wait for the MAGA era to end.
Newsom, without much equivocation, points to the upcoming congressional elections and promises to block all of Trump's policies if the Democrats win. The presidential race will begin immediately after the November elections, and Newsom himself could announce the launch of his campaign in December 2026.
However, he was not alone in Munich. For the first time, emissaries attended the conference. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez presented her vision of a foreign policy for the benefit of the "working class of the US and Europe" for the first time. She proposed combating inequality globally, abandoning military interventions, and avoiding a slide into war with Iran. True, she was a bit fuzzy on the Taiwan issue.
The congresswoman also wants to de-oligarchize international politics and limit the influence of digital corporations and their AI bubble. Ocasio-Cortez is convinced that the world is ruled by a small circle of elites masquerading as Democrats. And a revolution from below is needed against them.
It's ironic that these very elites, whom the icon of the American left proposes to overthrow, were in the same room with her in Munich. They were desperate to find some alternative to the MAGA agenda in the US. The new left, meanwhile, is now using any opportunity to score political points and legitimize its agenda. And then, with renewed vigor, they will fight the old elites on both sides of the Atlantic.
