In a Hollywood career spanning more than thirty years, the actress is probably best known for two wildly-different movies.
Ghost, which airs on Channel Four on Saturday, shows her softer, sweeter side and confirmed her a major star and box office draw in 1990.
Striptease, which came six years later marked another peak in her fame, if not her career.
The scandalous movie was followed by 1997's controversial GI Jane, which marked the end of her run as a box office queen.
Striptease, of course, is now notorious for the multiple topless scenes, displaying the actress' enhanced assets.
Moore played single mother Erin Grant in an eroticcomedy thriller that was originally intended to portray the lengths a strong woman will go to protect her family.
Moore also struck a resounding blow for female equality, becoming the highest-paid actress in Hollywood with a $12.5 miilion paycheck.
It's unlikely that many people went to the cinema for those reasons.
Moore played opposite Burt Reynolds' shadey congressman Dilbeck but will be mainly remembered for those pneumatic silicone implants and some truly cheesey dialogue.
Incredibly, the movie was released in the US at the same time as Disney's animated Hunchback of Notre Dame, in which the actress voiced Esmeralda.
Despite a critical drubbing and lacklustre US box office, Striptease banked $113million worldwide.

Even though they embark on a bank-robbing crime spree across America in Wisdom, it is all done to help poor farmers.
In 1997 Moore made a bid for award-ceremony credibility in Ridley Scott's GI Jane.
Intended to highlight sexism and bigotry in the Armed Forces and wider world in general, the film became famous for its leading lady shaving off her hair and flashing her incredible abs.
Moore also won a Worst Actress Razzie for her performance.
It would be six years before she returned in a mainstream movie, with 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, but her days as a bankable leading lady were over.
Moore may have played a supporting role in the movie but she made no apologies about hogging the limelight.
She appears in her first scene opposite screen beauty Cameron Diaz and totally upstaged a woman ten years younger than her.
One way or another , the actress always makes sure her fans want Moore.
