The competition, featuring kids aged between three and 15, has sparked outrage after photos of the youngsters were posted online
These were the disturbing scenes as kids as young as three posed in lingerie on a runway as part of a competition to find child models.
The contest , held in north-eastern China's Jilin Province, has sparked outrage after photos of the youngsters were uploaded online.
In one image, a little girl who looks to be aged around five can be seen posing in a white bra and knickers, with her hand on her waist.
In another, a small child is pictured sporting a green bikini. And in a third photo, a bare-chested boy models a pair of black boxer shorts.
The competition, which reportedly featured youngsters between the ages of three and 15, took place at a hotel in the city of Changchun.
Children modelled different outfits, including underwear and swimming costumes, for the competition, which was held to find young models.
The 32 winners go through to a national final, which will take place in Xiamen city, in eastern China’s Fujian Province, on December 30.
Shocked Internet user 'ram kun ok' commented: "The parents of these children must have lost their heads", while 'white daylight' claimed: "They'd be arrested in the United States".
A user called 'Niina' remarked simply: "Terrible!".
However, other online commentators claimed to see nothing wrong with allowing children to pose in the outfits.
"They have children's swimwear shows in the United States. Are beaches and swimming pools child pornography??"
And 'Maragu' agreed: "Adults like to use the adult world's vision to look at the problem, in fact, children simply do not see it like that."
