Deepworld Launches Kickstarter Project To Help To Fund A Mac Beta
When I first met the guys making Deepworld, a 2D sandbox-style building game similar to Minecraft at GDC in March, I informed them that the project would be much bigger than they thought. They've had a lot of experience in developing servers and software, however, running a game this big requires an investment of significant size. It looks like they now are in agreement. MCPROFILE has inspired a Kickstarter project to try and raise some funds for servers and development.
The group is offering a range of prizes to their supporters which include your own servers and worlds as well as art books and other swag. You also have the option of purchasing your own items as well as names and pictures to play the game. The goal is US$20,000, all in all and at the time of writing, the group has collected around $4,000. They are planning to make the project a full-time job and this funding will enable them to do so.
I certainly wish them the best. Deepworld looks fantastic, and I agree with you when I first was introduced to it. I think the Mac (and iOS) would greatly benefit from a game like that.
