There’s nothing better than dad jokes. In fact, here at Bored Panda, we love them so much, we dedicated an entire list only for you to facepalm at your funny dad and laugh uncontrollably. It seems that once you become a father figure, you grow a particular gene that lets you troll your entire family with the most absurd jokes. And, well, you can’t be mad, because once in a while, these practical jokes turn into viral sensations just like the one we are talking about today. What’s even better, these jokes might also have a valuable life lesson behind them.
In a now-viral video, the father of two enters his daughter’s room wearing similar short shorts like the ones his daughter recently bought. “I came up with the idea to cut my shorts up after three weeks ago this past Monday, my daughter came out of her room and wanted to go ride the golf cart. When I saw what she had on, I told her ‘not in those shorts you’re not.’ So as a typical teenager does, she started complaining that they were the only ones she had. So I gave her my card to go online to buy a new pair and to make sure they were longer. Fast forward to last Wednesday, the shorts came in, and I just placed the bag on her bed. Didn’t bother opening it because it was addressed to her and I knew they were the shorts,” said Jason in an interview with Bored Panda.
“That early evening, she came out of her room again, and I stated, “hey love bugs, what are you doing?” She stated she was going to go out and ride the golf cart. Mind you, my wife Alison, son Walker and I were sitting on the couch as this is going on. I told her, Kendall, we just talked about this, you’re not going out in those shorts, go back and out your new ones on. She stated that those were her new ones. I asked her to go back to her room. At that point, my son Walker and I ran to my closet and grabbed a pair of my jeans. He helped me cut them into short shorts. I then proceeded to my daughter’s room, and my wife stated, ‘wait, I have to film this.’ And then the funny video came into play.”
Now, this hilarious family joke has over 45 million views, 863k shares, 200k likes, and over 95k comments, it seems that people do love it a lot. “Never in a million years did I expect anything I do to go viral. This is a normal day for us. Not necessarily the videoing but the goofing off and laughing at each other (in a good way) and just enjoying being a private family life. I do not post much on FB unless it’s about my kids (Walker’s karate or Kendall’s cheer). So, this to say the least is something they will never forget. The video was just for a memory.”
“Our family life is just as normal as any other. (If normal is the right word). We hardly ever argue, fight, etc. my wife and I are raising kids through positive discipline. We love our kids and do everything we can for them as we are supposed to do as parents. And trust me, they are awesome kids. Kendall has aspirations of going to Auburn University (but wants to be an Anaesthesiologist). They both are smart, loving kids. Kendall being a teenager, of course, will try and get away with stuff and push some limits, she is still learning. But they understand we do things for a reason as parents. It is important that our kids talk to us and communicate with us and not be scared to do so.”
“We are always pulling pranks on each other. Whether hiding in a closet with a clown mask on or my son and I waiting for my wife and Kendall to get home late from cheer and hiding to scare them as they come in,” Jason said Bored Panda.

"skimpy." The implication of all of this is that the daughter is dressing inappropriately. I'd get it if her ass cheeks were hanging out but they're not. They're just shorts, there is nothing inappropriate about showing her legs. They're in Florida, it's hot. Can't a girl just wear shorts without getting shit.
Ok but has he tried to buy female longer shorts? With pockets? Cause I've had to start shopping in men's section for shorts and those never really fit due to my hips existing.
I haven't worn shorts in years because women's fashion are completely impractical and men's fashion often don't fit right.
Gosh, let the girl wear what she wants.
If you watch the video, he doesn't say she can't wear them. Just that he's going to start picking her up from school in his own short shorts. Entirely her choice!

My husband, sons, daughter and I started the day at church. As we were leaving the services, my 6-year-old daughter, Sydney, made sure to bring home the craft she’d been working on in Sunday school.
As we finished up lunch at home in our kitchen, Sydney asked whether she could go play at a friend’s house. It was something my little social butterfly did practically every day. With our blessing, she walked next door to her best friend’s house. My husband and middle son, Mason, tended to projects around the house, and my oldest son, Logan, and I headed out to do some grocery shopping.
Halfway through our shopping trip, I called home to ask Mason to bring his sister home. But, he didn’t find her at the neighbor’s. When he called to tell me that news, my first thought was, “She’s in so much trouble! She knows to ask for permission before heading to a different house!”
Our quiet, suburban neighborhood in Evans, Georgia, was just like the one I’d grown up in: sidewalk chalk, bikes strewn everywhere, you never knew how many extra kids you’d have at your dinner table at night. I asked Mason to find whose house she’d decided to visit and call me back with an update.
When Mason called back, I had a nearly full grocery cart. “She’s not at any of those houses.”
I left the cart where it was and rushed home, a tingling feeling of panic in my chest.
On the way, I got another phone call. It was Mason calling from a neighbor’s cellphone. I couldn’t make out his words at first, but the first thing I heard was “Mom, we found her. She’s very blue.”
Sydney had gotten into our SUV, which was parked in our driveway, and been overtaken by heat in the backseat. That’s where they found her, unresponsive and blue. She never woke up.
Sydney would be 11 years old this year.
We’d later piece together what was most likely to have happened. Sydney went next door to play but, after finding an empty house, she headed home. Remembering the craft she’d left in the car after church, she decided to retrieve it.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve asked myself a series of “What ifs?” There are so many variables that, if changed only slightly, could have made it possible for Sydney to be celebrating her 11th birthday this year. Among the most recurring questions is, “What if the car door had been locked?”
Year after year, stories about children left in hot cars make national headlines. The seemingly impossible act of forgetting a sleeping child in a back seat can, and does, happen to the most dedicated, loving and devoted parents.
Sydney Stanley of Evans, Georgia, is pictured here. She died when she was just six years old.
We never left any of our children alone in a car at any time. A scenario we hadn’t envisioned, though, was what if one of our children entered a car … alone?
In our neighborhood, kids love to play hide and seek. When trees and patios are taken, what better place to hide than the backseat of a car?
If you are a parent, teach your children that vehicles are never to be used as a play area. And even if you don’t have kids, know your unlocked car could be tempting to a curious child.
We miss our Sydney every minute of every day. Somewhere along our grief journey, I stopped questioning those “What ifs?” to instead focus on using our living nightmare to educate other parents.
So, I beg you, especially as the temperatures rise, recognize that your car could become a weapon. Never leave your car unlocked if there’s even a slight chance a child may be playing nearby.
6-year-old Sydney Stanely died in a hot car after entering it alone to retrieve a project she had made.
Educate the children in your life, lock your car doors and, no matter how old your child is, never assume.
