Don't try to act more British than you are just to fit in. He fell in love with you despite your Yankee ways, so don't try to change for him. In addition to the " be your true self " issue this presents, most non-British people just really suck at being British and look ridiculous when they try. [1]

British guys tend to be a bit more wry and subtle. Many Brits have a different sense of humor than people from other parts of the world, so don't feel hurt or offended if he doesn't laugh at your jokes, and don't get confused if you don't understand his. Brits are often dry and sarcastic, and part of the national humor involves making fun of people from countries, such as Americans, but don't take it personally. Keep in mind that he loves you and it's just the way he is. American jokes are funny anyway, because most of it is true. [2]

Learn some of his British slang . A lot of words are different across the pond, and you may want to invest in a handy-dandy British dictionary to decode your boy. For example, a good one to know is "pants". In Britain, "pants" are your underwear, and "trousers" are what we call the things you wear around your legs (what Americans call "pants"). [3]

So if your Brit gets a new wallet or something and he doesn't know where do put it, you should not under any circumstances suggest that he clip it to his pants. This will only generate awkward silences and funny looks. Also, if he invites you to a "fancy dress party", you should not wear your little black dress, prom gown or a suit. Go for something more like some bunny ears, or possibly a clown suit, because a "fancy dress party" is a costume party.

The more interest you show, the more he’ll open up about. For some reason, the British still have a queen and princes and they drink tea and spell "favorite" like "favourite" and call cookies "biscuits". This may seem to you like some totally strange and bonkers things to do, but try to get interested in it. You may find some cool bits of culture that you wouldn't expect. [4]

It's perfectly natural for couples to clash a little. Hey, you're from two different worlds. It's gonna be hard. But remember that despite your differences, something brought you two together and you love each other. [5]

People are all completely different, and assuming that there are set traits that will determine how people from each nationality will act is a mistake. While it’s true that there are some ‘typical’ ways for British men to act, and some ‘typical’ ways for Jamaican men to act (stereotypes at least), and while there are some cultural differences, it is important to remember that a nationality does not define their personality and they will be just as varied as men from America (who are also of course all one nationality but all act completely differently). Dating a British man can be completely different depending on which British men you are dating, so any advice here might not necessarily apply with your guy.
That said, here we will look at some of the cultural differences and common features that are relevant when dating British men.
Many women from the US are attracted to British men for their accents which a lot of women find to be a very sophisticated sounding voice. This then is a perk of dating British men, but it might also mean that your guy gets a lot of attention on nights out as people – including other women – are constantly excited to find someone British in their midsts.
This has another implication though which is the language barrier. Bear in mind that there are some differences in the English and American vocabulary. Words like ‘pants’ which actually only refer to underwear (rather than trousers) in England. None of these differences though are serious enough to cause any major confusions or offence and will mostly just be a source of amusement.
If your British guy was raised in England or still lives there, then he will likely have some particularly British traits. For instance you are likely to find that your guy enjoys football (soccer) a lot, and this might be something he gets very passionate about. He will also very likely in this case have a fondness for British pubs, and for certain lagers. Almost every British guy is also very fond of cups of tea (more so than coffee).
In terms of personality you are likely to find that English guys are much more reserved than American guys, particularly if they are from the South. They are less likely to start conversations with strangers, and less likely to applaud in the cinema or join in games that involve performance of any kind. Likewise they’ll be less likely to voice their grievances or to talk about their emotions at all – keep your true feelings inside and to keep your interactions with strangers as brief and polite exchanges rather than making any meaningful conversation. This can be frustrating or pleasant for women depending on what you’re looking for.
Another aspect of British men that’s different in a lot of cases is their sense of humour. You can witness this simply by watching an American sitcom and then an English one. The British comedy tends to be more sarcastic, cynical and based on situation. You can expect a British guy to have a sense of humour that is much more quiet and ‘dry’ rather than involving hand gestures or impersonations. At first this can make your guy seem a little bland, but if you look for a wicked and dry sense of humour then it is probably there under the radar.
As mentioned, the average British bloke will love to go down the pub and thus much of their cuisine comes from that pass time. Things like pie and chips, cottage pie, fish and chips, roast dinners, full English breakfasts and barbecues (chips meaning fries, not crisps).
the accent? please tell me something I don't know…
Do you realise that there's a difference between "Britain/Britain" and "England/English"? You used the two words as though they are interchangeable! A lot of British men, especially Scots and Welsh, would find that offensive.

Males are an interesting species – am I right, ladies? Although almost all men have certain characteristics and traits in common, there are cultural differences that can make navigating the dating world fairly tricky. Especially if you are in England.
Sure, the Brits love to drink. They’re pretty loud. They’re really fun. And they have an abundance of men who seem to be single. Wonder why… Anyways, we’re going to give you some tips on how to date British men. There are positives and negatives to dating an English lad, and we’ll be sure to give you a good idea of both before throwing you out into the world of London Tinder.

One thing about the English so they’re not very reserved. They don’t really respond to subtle cues and quieter people. If you want a man to know something, you’re probably going to have to say it. In England, if a guy is interested in you while you’re out at a bar, he will probably wait for some cues of interest from you as well. So try and go against everything you’ve ever been taught, like batting your eyelashes and pretending not to be interested – if you do this, they really will just move on. Show some interest so his ego isn’t hurt (if you’re interested too, that is), so he’s willing to strike up a conversation.
Something about England is that the men are pretty prideful people. They wouldn’t respond too well to being told what to do. If you say something along the lines of, “Well, you should do….” then they will probably come back with some sarcastic retort as to why you are in charge. Just avoid this situation at all costs. Wait until you’re actually dating to start telling him what to do.

You know when you go to someone’s house and they ask you if you want more food and you say no, trying to be polite? Typically, if you do that in England they will just take the answer and go with it. As I said, the English are pretty straight-up and blunt people. So if you say you’re not hungry, then they’ll take that as the truth. Don’t blame your English boyfriend for when you’re hungry one hour after dinner.

Okay, so we all know this. The English and Irish are drinkers. They flock to the pubs, they order massive amounts of pints, and they just sit there all day and all night, loving every minute. English lads are brought up to go to the pub for any reason – if they’re sad, they’re happy, or anything at all interesting happens. Or if nothing happened at all, and they’re bored. Therefore, they are accustomed to drinking a lot, from a very young age. You better get used to your English man having Smithwick’s on the regular.

Your man has started dating you because he likes YOU – not because he likes you, but wants you to be British. That’s weird.  So, for the love of God, please don’t try to say British slang terms, speak in a slight British accent, or pretend like you know English childhood traditions. Just be yourself.
I gotta say, the Brits are hilarious. Any event can turn into a night to remember with this lot. They are loud, they’re funny, they’re not afraid to say what they mean, and they are witty. If you don’t have a sense of humor, then your conversation with a British man will only last a  few minutes. If you can’t give back the banter they’re giving you, then they’ll most likely get bored.
Yes, we know. The British accent is very cool. We love just hearing British men talk – we really don’t care what it’s about. However, when you first start dating, be sure to actually listen to the meaning of the words coming out of his mouth, instead of just the way he says your name.

If you are going to date an English man from London, then you’re in luck. They usually dress very well, keep up to date with the current styles, and enjoy looking put-together. Men will usually spend more time than girls getting ready – well, maybe not with the amount of makeup that English girls wear, but it’s a pretty close race. If you’re into a well-dressed man, look no further.

English Premier League football is a huge part of the English culture. It’s more of a way of life than a hobby. Men flock to the pubs to watch the games at all hours of the day, and proceed to get pretty drunk to their favorite team playing in the background. Get on board with the football, or don’t go with him to the pub. And don’t tell him that you don’t like this favorite team – trust us. Especially not a Liverpool fan.

A combination of their humor, their accent, their drinking shenanigans, and their fun nature with you and with friends will keep you interested in your British men for a long time. Try dating, try playing the scene, and try to just have fun while potentially finding someone to settle down with.
The positives and negatives of dating British men are for you to weigh against each other – but hey, at least we gave you some foolproof tips…

American girls british guys Dating Love

Allow me to state the obvious: British guys are dreamy. If that’s a stereotype, I hope it’s one they’re happy to bear. So when DateBritishGuys.com approached me about writing this post, I said, absolutely. It’s hard to resist a British man; they seem so utterly charming no matter what, even if they’re cursing. (They actually sound bloody fantastic when they curse.) It’s no secret that I adore British men (for example, Sir Paul McCartney is my ideal boyfriend), and I
