Data Scientist in Geoscience

Aramco Research Center – Moscow is seeking a Data Scientist to develop AI/ML solutions for seismic and well log data analysis. The role requires expertise in deep learning, transformers for spatial prediction, and HPC computing, bridging research and industrial applications. Occasional business trips to Saudi Arabia for field testing are expected.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated AI specialist to contribute to cutting-edge geoscience research, working with large-scale seismic datasets and advanced deep learning models in a dynamic R&D environment.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and apply state-of-the-art deep learning models, including transformers, for spatial prediction tasks in seismic data analysis, well log interpretation, and subsurface modeling.
• Optimize and deploy AI models on High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, ensuring efficient handling of large-scale seismic datasets.
• Conduct research on machine learning approaches for seismic and well log data integration, enhancing subsurface imaging and reservoir characterization.
• Preprocess and analyze complex seismic and well log datasets, implementing feature extraction, data cleaning, and model training techniques tailored for geoscience challenges.
• Collaborate closely with geoscientists and domain experts to ensure that AI models align with exploration and production objectives.
• Prepare reports, present findings, and document AI model development, ensuring transparency and reproducibility in geoscience applications.
• Participate in field trials and testing in Dahran, Saudi Arabia, ensuring real-world validation of AI-driven solutions (occasional business trips required).

Key Technical Skills and Competencies:

• MSc/PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
• Required experience in Data Science and Data Analytics: 2+ years.
• Strong Python skills (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn) and experience with spatial ML models (e.g., transformers).
• Familiarity with HPC, Linux, Git, and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes).
• Excellent English for documentation, reporting, and presentations.

Desirable Additional Skills:

• Background in geoscience or petroleum engineering is NOT required but a plus.
• Experience in geoscience AI applications, scientific publishing, and field testing.
