Fox411: Jenna Jameson and Traci Lords are but a few previously X-rated performers who have managed to parlay their controversial careers into the mainstream
Many times porn stars are considered social outcasts once they leave the adult entertainment industry, but there are a few previously X-rated performers who have managed to parlay their controversial careers into the mainstream.
Jenna Jameson Once dubbed the queen of the adult entertainment genre, she used her fan base to gain the attention of Hollywood. The mother of three starred in major movies, such as Howard Stern’s “Private Parts,” and appeared on TV shows, like “Family Guy.” The 43-year-old also published the best-selling book “Sugar” and her autobiography “How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale.”
Sasha Grey She won Female Performer of the Year at the 2008 AVN Awards but then segued into a role in 2009’s “The Girlfriend Experience.” She also played herself in the HBO hit series “Entourage.” The star dabbled in modeling, appearing in ads for Max Azria and American Apparel. Like Jameson, she is also an author, penning novels “Neü Sex” and “The Juliette Society.”

Sunny Leone She was born Karenjit Kaur Vohra and later adapted her stage persona and went on to star in dozens of adult films. She later made the surprising change from adult actress to Bollywood star in 2012. She announced her retirement from porn in 2013. In July 2017, Leone adopted a child with her husband Daniel Weber.
Sibel Kekilli The German actress is known for her role as Shae in the HBO series “Game of Thrones” however prior to her small screen achievement she worked in pornography. The actress kept her adult film job a secret from her family but when she began to get acting parts in German films, a reporter unearthed her salacious past which Kekili condemned as a smear campaign. Since then she has become an advocate for women’s rights.
Traci Lords She broke the law when she broke into the adult business. At only 15, the now 49-year-old used a fake ID to land herself in Penthouse magazine and a slew of adult movies. When she was caught in 1986, porn distributors had to pull all of her films because they featured her as a minor. But that setback didn’t stop Lords from vying for legitimate acting jobs. She landed a gig in mainstream acting in the 1988 cult classic “Cry-baby.” She went on to appear in many TV and film roles.

Daria "Dasha" Dmitrievna Nekrasova [1] ( Belarusian : Дар’я "Даша" Дзмітрыеўна Някрасава , romanized : Darja "Daša" Dzmitryjeŭna Niakrasava ; Russian : Дарья "Даша" Дмитриевна Некрасова ; born February 19, 1991) [2] is a Belarusian-American actress, filmmaker, and host of the Red Scare podcast with Anna Khachiyan . [3] [4]

In 2018, she became known as "Sailor Socialism", [5] [6] after her interview with an InfoWars reporter, in which she was dressed in a sailor fuku , went viral . In 2021, she made her directorial debut with the horror film The Scary of Sixty-First , for which she won the Best First Feature Award at the Berlin International Film Festival , and appeared in a recurring role on the TV series Succession for which she won a Screen Actors Guild award , along with the cast. [7]

Nekrasova was born in Minsk , Belarus (at that time still part of USSR ), [8] to parents who worked as acrobats . [9] She emigrated to the United States with her parents when she was four, settling in Las Vegas , Nevada . [10]

She attended high school at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts , graduating in 2008, before attending Mills College , where she studied sociology and philosophy. [10]

Nekrasova first appeared in music videos for alternative artists such as Yumi Zouma , [11] before making her feature film debut in Wobble Palace , which she co-wrote with director Eugene Kotlyarenko. [3] [12] The New York Times described the film as "a sendup of broke-artist types that shimmers with abashed affection", [3] while RogerEbert.com commented that "while your comedic milage with its loose goofiness may vary, this movie succeeds in contributing a filmic time capsule" for millennials. [3] [12] She appeared as the leading character in the dark comedy The Softness of Bodies , with The Hollywood Reporter saying she inhabited the role "effortlessly". [9]

While promoting Wobble Palace at the 2018 South by Southwest Festival , her interview with right-wing media outlet InfoWars went viral . [5] She was nicknamed "Sailor Socialism" for expressing her support for Bernie Sanders , while dressed in a Japanese schoolgirl outfit resembling Sailor Moon . [5] [6] The clip was featured in a segment on Venezuela in an episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver . [13]

On March 29, 2018, Nekrasova started the podcast Red Scare with co-host Anna Khachiyan . The show has been associated with the dirtbag left . [14] [15] [16] It was described in The Cut as "a critique of feminism , and capitalism, from deep inside the culture they’ve spawned." [16] Daily Dot said the show's "schtick" had been summed up by former congressional staffer Simone Norman, as "when hot mean girls become public leftists." [17]

In February 2019, Nekrasova appeared – alongside Khachiyan – as a runway model at the Marlborough art gallery in Manhattan showcasing the Fall 2019 collection designed by Rachel Comey . [18]

In 2020, Nekrasova made her directorial debut with The Scary of Sixty-First , a thriller co-written with Madeline Quinn, and inspired by the death of Jeffrey Epstein . [19] The film premiered at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival and won the prize for Best First Feature. [20] [21] Later that year, Nekrasova co-wrote the short film, Spectacular Reality , inspired by conspiracies surrounding crisis actors and featuring models from No Agency New York , [22] and directed the November 6, 2020 video performance of Oneohtrix Point Never 's " I Don't Love Me Anymore " on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon . [19] [23]

In November 2021, Nekrasova posted to Instagram a photo of herself with Alex Jones, the host of Infowars , and subsequently praised Jones on her podcast Red Scare as "an incredible entertainer". [24]

Nekrasova appears in a supporting role in season three of the HBO drama Succession as Comfrey, a crisis PR rep. [25] [26] [27] [28] [29]

Nekrasova has dated Daniel Lopatin, better known as Oneohtrix Point Never , a musician. [23] She is the former fiancée of comedian Adam Friedland , a host of the retired podcast Cum Town , and current host of The Adam Friedland Show . [30] [31]

Porn star Dahlia Sky was found dead in her car from an apparent gunshot wound on Wednesday. She was 31.
The 10-year veteran of the adult entertainment industry would have observed her 32nd birthday on Aug. 10, according to Adult Video News .
Police are looking into the case as a potential suicide. The adult industry performer had allegedly been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer and was battling depression at the time of her death, the Sun reported .
Sky’s body was found in the vehicle at approximately 8 p.m. June 30 in the San Fernando Valley’s Devonshire area, LAPD detective Dave Peteque told AVN. Police are awaiting autopsy results from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
While no formal cause of death has been recorded, Peteque said “potential suicide” is “what the investigation is leaning towards, and there’s no evidence at this time that there’s any foul play.”
Since her passing, friends and fans have come forward to memorialize Sky’s prolific career and nuanced personality.
“During her last year I spoke to her several times about life. It was not an easy ride for her,” said Hans — the mononymous owner of JHP Films, which co-produced some of Sky’s previous work — in a statement to AVN. “This will take a long time to get over, if it’s even possible. Dahlia Sky, you beautiful soul, you funny, complicated and warm-hearted friend! I am going to miss you so much.”
Sky began adult entertainment work in 2010 under the name Bailey Blue — she changed it in 2014 following a cease-and-desist from a clothing company of the same name, according to AVN — and proceeded to accrue more than 600 credits, as well as various industry awards. She was open about her battle with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and depression on social media.
“She was super funny and she had a big heart, but unfortunately her battle with breast cancer took a toll on her mental health and she struggled with depression, as most people would,” producer Axel Braun told AVN of Sky. “My heart goes out to her family and loved ones, we lost a beautiful soul.”
If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, you can get help 24/7 from the National Suicide Hotline at 800-273-8255.
