Earlier this week, jaws dropped when Dascha Polanco shared a few photos in her birthday suit on Instagram. The photos hold a special meaning for the Orange is the New Black star, who expanded on the importance of body positivity with Women’s Health.
Released Wednesday (Aug. 8) for their “Naked Truth” issue, the mother of two dished on her journey to confidence with her craft and most importantly, her curves. “I got to a point where I wished I could cut off my rolls with scissors,” she said. “I would grab at my thighs and say, ‘Ugh, I hate you, you’re ugly, I don’t like you! Oh my God, I just want to get rid of this!’ But talking to myself that way never made me feel better, just guilty.”
Following the birth of her children 16 years ago provided the stunning actress with more love and acceptance for her body. “I wanted to instill in my kids self-acceptance and a sense of self-love.” she said. “I wanted them to know they’re unique and that that’s what makes them beautiful. I wanted them to be confident, and I knew I had to model that.”
Polanco previously shared with VIBE VIVA similar sentiments and how traditional film roles aren’t catered to women like herself.
“I’m not a size zero, and I’m very transparent when it comes to that. I’m not your cookie cutter actress. I am full of curves, not sample-sized,” she said. “So the issue with that is a lot of roles are not designed or designated for a Latina. Or a Dominican. Or a woman like me.”
Unafraid and dignified, it’s always refreshing to get a chance to absorb Polanco’s lovable energy.

Orange is the New Black star Dascha Polanco has uploaded some brand new naked photos, as she tells fans that she is living her dream and feels "empowered in every way".
The actress, who plays Dayanara 'Daya' Diaz in the Netflix hit and appeared in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story , recently took part in a photoshoot for Women's Health magazine.
Sharing some of the pictures from the shoot, the star wrote: "My naked truth !!! Thank you @womenshealthmag for this amazing feature ! I am empowered in every way & To all the amazing women I get to share this moment with all love ❤️. #ismellgood#selflovery."
In a second picture, she wrote: "The best is yet to come,living my dream in big hair. #bts Viviendo mis sueños con mi Melena ! #womenshealth #ismellgood #selflovery."
The actress has talked previously about her struggle with her weight, and has said that she almost quit acting due to the lack of work out there for actresses considered "plus-size" in the industry .
"In Hollywood, it's always been about being a size zero, blonde, blue-eyed, safe-looking Latina," she explained. "If you look like you're white, then you're right. And if you don't, there's little out there."
Nowadays, though, she is happy to use her platform to represent curvaceous girls.
Polanco recently said that season five of Orange was not the best , stating: "Honestly, I think that there were topics that they should have covered more. I do my job for the character, for Dayanara, but it would have been nice to see a lot of what she was really going through be touched on.
"I'm glad that in season six we're able to talk about current events."
Orange is the New Black airs on Netflix.
