Darıca (Greek: Δάριτζα, from the Byzantine τὰ Ῥίτζιον) is a municipality and district of Kocaeli Province, Turkey. [2] The town was previously known as Aretsou (Αρετσού) by its native Greek population.
DARICA Darıca takes its name from the Darıca Fortress, which is located 200 m away in the North. The walls that is known as "Tararion" in history were used against the attacks made from outside in Byzantine period. Darıca is a municipality and district of Kocaeli Province, Turkey. Its area is 23 km2, and its population is 225,602 (2022). The district Darıca was created in 2008 from part of the district of Gebze, along with the districts Çayırova and Dilovası. The current mayor is Muzaffer Bıyık.
